History: (Last Edited: 6/09/2006)

The Beginning
WWF: 1998 / 1999 / 2000 / 2001 / 2002
WWF/WWE Smackdown: WWF-2002 / WWE-2002 / 2003
WWE Raw: 2004 / 2005 / 2006

The Beginning

Adam Copeland trained for a professional wrestling career at Sully's Gym in Toronto in 1992. After a full year of training, Copeland began to wrestle, debuting in June '93. Meanwhile, Copeland's good friend, Jason Reso, also began to train at Sully's Gym, eventually coming out as Christian Cage, Copeland's tag-team partner for a while. Copeland, by this point, was wrestling as "Sexton Hardcastle", and joined with Christian as High Impact (wrestling as Adam Impact), then later the Suicide Blondes. Although I'm not sure about this, I do believe that the Suicide Blondes held the SSW Tag-Team Titles together at one point. I know for sure that the duo won the ISW Street-Fight Tag-Team Titles at the end of 1997, a big victory for the team. The Suicide Blondes also, at one point, belonged to the stable Thug Life, which also included future stars Rhino Richards and Joe E. Legend.

WWF: 1998

Going into 1998, Sexton Hardcastle began wrestling some in dark matches for the World Wrestling Federation, usually participating when the WWF came to Canada. This helped Copeland get noticed by the top organization, and he was brought into the WWF training camp under the tutelage of Tom Pritchard & Dory Funk Jr. In June '98, Edge made his debut on WWF Raw Is War, wrestling against Jose Estrada Jr. He was a mysterious character, sometimes appearing in the rafters during matches and attacking opponents. At Summerslam '98, Edge made his WWF pay-per-view debut, appearing as the surprise partner of Sable in her tag-team match against Sable's ex, Marc Mero, & his new woman, Jacquelyn. Edge helped get the win for his team by actually body-slamming Sable on top of Mero to allow her to get the pinfall, winning the match.

Going into the fall of '98, Edge began having problems with Gangrel, a wrestler who was also apparently a vampire, drinking blood while coming down to the ring. At Breakdown '98, Edge went against Owen Hart, with the two young Canadians putting on a terrific technical match. However, during the match, an unknown WWF wrestler, looking similar to Edge (Christian Cage), came out to the ring, causing Edge to become distracted and allowing Hart to get the pinfall victory. It was later revealed that Christian was Edge's brother, and that he was aligned with Gangrel. After some confrontations between the two brothers (both of whom also appeared to be vampire-ish), Edge was convinced to 'rejoin' with Christian & Gangrel, forming the Brood.

The three men created a strange union, with blood and 18th-century clothes being the norm. The Brood's first major feud was with Al Snow's Job Squad, which consisted of Snow, Bob Holly (later known as Hardcore), and (Too Cold) Scorpio. The two teams had it out at Rock Bottom in December '98, with the Brood managing the victory over the Job Squad. It was around this time that the Brood began to become famous for their "Bloodbaths". A wrestler would be inside the ring when the lights would go out. When they came back on, the wrestler would be covered in blood, a nerve-racking experience, to say the least.

It was around this time that the Undertaker's Ministry of Darkness was the most powerful force in the WWF. So it made sense that the Brood would join up with them. For a short time, the Brood were the grunts of the Ministry. But the Brood eventually broke away again from the Ministry, and feuded with them for a time, facing off against Mideon, Bradshaw, & Faarooq at Backlash '99. The two teams were almost evenly matched, but Viscera proved to be the one who gave the Ministry the edge, attacking Christian and tossing him into the ring post while the referee was distracted. Viscera then rolled Christian back into the ring, where Bradshaw's Clothesline From Hell finished off the match for the Ministry.

The Brood next feuded with the Hardy Boyz, in a back-and-forth series of matches. While Edge & Christian had Gangrel, the Hardy Boyz had Michael Hayes to even things out. At the King of the Ring '99, Edge & Christian took on the Hardy Boyz, with the winners to get a WWF Tag-Team Title shot. It was a solid back-and-forth match, but things turned bad in the end, as Gangrel accidentally hit Edge while trying to help out his partners. Jeff Hardy then took out Edge for the victory, costing the Brood the match. Problems continued to grow between Edge & Christian and Gangrel, and eventually Edge & Christian broke away from the Brood, forming their own team. Gangrel retaliated by hiring the Hardy Boyz to become the New Brood, escalating the feud between the two teams.

Edge, meanwhile, also had a feud going with Jeff Jarrett, who held the WWF Intercontinental Title. On the house show before the July pay-per-view, Edge shocked Jarrett, defeating him for the IC Championship, Edge's first major WWF singles title. However, Jarrett was given his rematch against Edge the next night at Fully Loaded '99. Before the match could get started, the lights went out, as Gangrel launched a sneak-attack on Edge. Edge got the best of the exchange, taking out Gangrel, but this allowed Jarrett to get in the first shots on the champion. Later on, Edge's compassion proved to be his undoing. As Edge went off the ropes, he knocked down Jarrett's valet, Debra. As Edge leaned out, trying to see if she was alright, Gangrel attacked, dropping Edge's neck on the ropes. This allowed Jarrett to take out Edge with his finisher and get the win, giving Edge a one-day reign as IC Champion.

At Summerslam '99, Edge & Christian were entered into the Tag-Team Turmoil match, where the winner would become the #1 Contenders to the tag titles. Edge & Christian drew #1, while the Hardy Boyz drew #2, ensuring that the two teams would go at it. The two teams fought it out again, with Gangrel working for the other team, getting in any cheapshots he could. But Edge & Christian proved their skills, as Christian got a Top-Rope Elbow Drop on Matt Hardy for the victory. They next faced Mideon & Viscera, their old Ministry foes, who looked to dominate with their power. But when Viscera accidentally splashed Mideon, Edge took advantage with a spear on Mideon to move on. Droz & Prince Albert came out next, but they couldn't beat Edge & Christian, either, losing to the brothers. However, fatigue was really starting to play a factor, and Edge & Christian didn't have enough left in the tanks to get past Bradshaw & Faarooq of the Acolytes, who went on to win the match and the title shot.

Edge & Christian continued to gain respect in the tag-team division, as their skills were plain for all to see. At Unforgiven '99, Edge & Christian got their first pay-per-view title shot, going against the New Age Outlaws. It wasn't Edge & Christian's night, though, as the former DX team won out. Edge & Christian quickly got back into the mix, though, as they won a "Three-Way #1 Contenders" Match at the UK pay-per-view, Rebellion '99, defeating the Acolytes and Hardcore & Crash Holly. Edge got the victory for his team, getting a Tornado DDT on Bradshaw for the victory. The title shot, though, again didn't pay off, so Edge & Christian concentrated on another endeavor: The Terri Runnels Invitational Tournament. Terri offered $100,000 and her managerial skills to the winner of the tournament. Edge & Christian, not surprisingly, made it to the final match, taking on their old foes, the Hardy Boyz, in an absolutely amazing Ladder match at No Mercy '99. The two teams put on some unbelievable moves, easily stealing the show as the best match. In the end, though, Matt Hardy was the one who made it up the ladder, winning the match, and the money, for his team.

After their battle, some respect grew between Edge & Christian and the Hardy Boyz. The two teams united for a time, to fight two heel teams, Too Much and Hardcore & Crash Holly, at the 1999 Survivor Series. The match didn't take long to break down into an out-and-out brawl, and during the confusion, Hardcore Holly rolled up Edge to eliminate him. Soon after, Scott Taylor eliminated Matt Hardy, leaving it 2-4. Jeff Hardy fought back, getting an unbelievable splash on Taylor to eliminate him. But Brian Christopher avenged his partner, taking out the other Hardy with a top rope leg-drop. It was Christian vs. 3 other wrestlers. But Christian fought hard, and eliminated Christopher with the Impaler (later known as the Unprettier). Christian then survived a brutal attack from the Hollys to take out Crash with a tomakazie. But the odds were too tough for Christian, who finally fell to Hardcore Holly, losing the match.

To finish out 1999, a Tag-Team Battle Royal was set up at Armageddon '99, between eight tag-teams. The teams were Edge & Christian, the Hardy Boyz, the Acolytes, the Dudley Boyz, the Mean Street Posse, the Headbangers, Too Cool (formerly Too Much), and Mark Henry & the Godfather. The teams all went at it, with 16 men brawling it out in the ring, trying not to be eliminated. The Posse tried to cheat, by sending new wrestlers into the ring when one was thrown out away from the referee, but they didn't have the power to survive. Near the end, only four teams were left: Edge & Christian, the Hardys, the Dudleyz, and the Acolytes. Unfortunately, this was as far as Edge & Christian got, as both wrestlers were eliminated next. In the end, the Acolytes took out the Hardy Boyz to win the match.

Edge & Christian continued to work as a strong tag-team in the new year, with both men competing in the '00 Royal Rumble, with little success. They just seemed to work better as a team. So Edge & Christian concentrated again to get closer to the World Tag Titles. At No Way Out '00, a #1 Contendership Match was set up between Edge & Christian and their old rivals, the Hardy Boyz. The Hardys were joined at ringside by both Terri Runnels and Runnels' 'protection', the Acolytes. The match was a wild display of high-flying activities, from Edge getting a mid-air spear on Jeff Hardy to a double-Hardy top-rope dive on Christian. The end of the match, though, was decided by Terri. When Jeff Hardy was up on the top rope, ready to end things, Terri surprisingly got up on the ring apron and pushed him off. Terri then slapped Matt in the face, leaving him off-balance and vulnerable to Christian's finisher, giving Edge & Christian the victory. After the match, the Acolytes beat down the Hardys, 'protecting' Terri Runnels just like they were paid for.

The problems continued to grow between Edge & Christian and the Hardy Boyz, quickly also involving the current WWF Tag-Team Champions, the Dudley Boyz. After various brawls involving the three teams, a major match was signed for Wrestlemania '00: a "Triangle Ladder" Match. The match was an incredible spotfest, involving at least 3 different ladders in the ring at one time. Every wrestler in the match took some horrible bumps, falling off the ladders. One of the biggest moves came from Edge & Christian, who superplexed D'Von Dudley off of one of the ladders. Christian later leapt off the top of one of the ladders all the way to the outside, splashing both Dudleys. The Dudleys later took control of both teams, however, when tables became involved. At one point, Bubba Ray Dudley powerbombed Matt Hardy off the Spanish announcers' table through another table. Bubba Ray then planned to do a similar maneuver to Jeff Hardy, but Christian intervened, knocking out Bubba Ray with a ring bell. Jeff then climbed the tallest ladder around and did the Swanton Bomb, putting Bubba Ray through the table and essentially taking both men out. In the end, after Matt took out D'Von with the Twist of Fate, both he and Christian climbed for the belts. Edge climbed as well, and the tag-team tossed Matt Hardy off the ladder and through a table. Edge & Christian then got to the belts, winning the match and finally gaining the WWF World Tag-Team Titles.

Edge & Christian didn't waste time defending their newly-won straps, feuding briefly with former DeGeneration-X members X-Pac and the Road Dogg. The two teams fought against each other at Backlash '00, with Christian 'earning' the win for his team by knocking out (and bloodying) X-Pac with the ring bell while the referee's back was turned, allowing Edge to make the pin. Next, Edge & Christian began to side regularly with their ally, Kurt Angle. The three men found that they all had a lot in common, and each helped the others win matches. The three men teamed up to face Too Cool & Rikishi at Judgment Day '00. Before the match, the three men joined together in insulting the Kentucky crowd, wearing straw hats and dancing around with banjos. The team didn't fare as well during the match, though, with Angle taking a Stinkface from Rikishi during the bout. Although they nearly got the win with Edge hitting Scotty Too Hotty with the ring bell (the ref was down, so there was no count), Grandmaster Sexay took out Edge with the Hip Hop Drop, then rolled Scotty on top, getting his team the victory.

Only a week later, Edge & Christian lost the WWF Tag-Team Titles to Too Cool. Furious at the loss of their belts, Edge & Christian quickly began working to earn the chance to regain their gold. Unfortunately, there were other teams also interested in a title shot against the young champions, leading to a Four-Way Elimination Match being set up for King of the Ring '00, pitting Edge & Christian against Too Cool(c), Test & Albert, and the Hardy Boyz. This meant that the winner would have to survive three other teams. The beginning of the match mainly featured a battle between T & A and the Hardys, with many double-teams taking place. Matt Hardy struck the first blow, knocking out Test with the Twist of Fate to eliminate T & A. But Edge & Christian quickly stepped in, going to war with the Hardys, and eventually, after Christian survived his own 'Twist of Fate', he eliminated Matt Hardy (and Jeff) with the Impaler. This led to Edge & Christian taking on the champs, Too Cool. Edge & Christian went for a double-Worm on Grandmaster Sexay at one point, only to have it backfire on them when Scotty Too Hotty took down Edge and got the Worm on him instead. But Christian was able to knock out Sexay with a title belt, enabling Edge to make the pin to get the tag-team titles back around their waists.

The next challengers to Edge & Christian were the Acolytes, a very powerful tag-team that the brothers were obviously worried about. Going into Fully Loaded '00, Christian tried to act sick, going as far as to throw fake vomit into the toilet. The duo was caught, though, by Commissioner Mick Foley, and they were forced to compete at the PPV. The Acolytes dominated the majority of the match, although Edge & Christian did isolate Bradshaw for a time. When Bradshaw managed to make the tag to Faarooq, though, things looked bad for the champions. Faarooq caught Christian with the Dominator, and made the pin. But Edge came in with one of the tag-team titles and hit Faarooq with it, saving the belts while losing via disqualification. Edge & Christian didn't care, though, having kept their prized titles around their waists.

Going into August '00, Edge & Christian had stayed the dominant team, continuing their habit of doing "5-second poses" before their matches. But old rivals were challenging again, as both the Hardy Boyz and the Dudley Boyz were major contenders for the WWF Tag-Team Titles. To remedy their feud, Commissioner Foley arranged for an unbelievable match between the three teams: Tables, Ladders, & Chairs, or TLC. The match was signed for Summerslam '00, and really had too many high spots to be mentioned in this history. It literally would have to be seen to believed. One of the best spots was when Jeff Hardy tried a Swanton Bomb from a 20-foot ladder, but when Bubba Ray Dudley moved, Hardy went through the table on his own instead. Bubba Ray later went through four tables at once himself, a horrific crash. At the end, D'Von Dudley and Jeff Hardy both went for the belts, with the ladder falling out from underneath them. Hardy managed to kick D'Von off of the belt, sending him down, but Edge & Christian then knocked Hardy off by throwing a ladder at him! Edge & Christian then climbed their own ladder and got the belts, winning the 2000 Match of the Year.

The feud between Edge & Christian and the Hardy Boyz didn't end, though, as the two teams continued to fight over the next month. At one point, Edge & Christian showed footage from Matt & Jeff's early years, making fun of their past. When Matt, Jeff, and their valet, Lita, entered the viewing room to get revenge, Edge & Christian ambushed them, injuring all three with ConChairTo chair shots, including giving Lita a minor concussion. They then bragged that the Hardyz just can't beat them. At Unforgiven '00, the two teams met in a "Steel Cage" Match. Things quickly turned back for the Hardys early on, as Jeff was knocked out of the cage, eliminating him from the match, while Matt was trapped with Edge & Christian, who continued to double-team. Christian was also careful not to let Jeff back into the cage, despite repeated attempts. Christian even stopped Jeff from coming through the cage door, and used the open door to get a steel chair to use on Matt. Christian later fell out of the cage, though, leaving it a one-on-one affair, until Jeff used a ladder to get back into the ring. Jeff then hit a spectacular "Whisper In The Wind" from the top of the cage on both Edge and Matt Hardy. Christian tried to reenter the ring using the same ladder that Jeff used, but Lita appeared, catching Christian with a Lita-cunrana off the ladder to take him out. The Hardy Boyz then got a ConChairTo on Edge on top of the cage, sending Edge all the way to the ringfloor. The Hardys then left the cage, winning away the tag-team titles.

Edge & Christian tried to get their belts back within the next few weeks, but failed to enter into the Tag-Team Battle Royal for the #1 Contendership for the Hardys' straps, as they were said to be sick. However, another team, the Conquistadors, won the match, and definitely seemed to be Edge & Christian under masks. When asked Spanish questions, the Conquistadors would only say yes in Spanish. Still, having earned the shot, the Conquistadors fought the Hardy Boyz at No Mercy '00. At the PPV, Edge & Christian were interviewed in the back, where they hilariously talked about how they got sick due to eating peanuts, but that they were better now. They also said they'd be cheering on the Conquistadors to victory. In the match, the Hardy Boyz seemed more interested in unmasking the Conquistadors then beating them down. In the end, this proved to be the downfall, as Matt Hardy got the Twist of Fate on one, then went for the mask instead of the pin. He got the mask off, but another mask was on underneath! The other Conquistador then took out Matt with an inverted neckbreaker to win the match, making the Conquistadors tag-team champions.

After the match, a winded Edge & Christian were seen in the back, saying that they had ran all the way to the store to get chips and dip to celebrate the Conquistadors' victory. They celebrated with two masked men, neither of whom looked very tired after the grueling match, and announced that the first defense for the Conquistadors would be against Edge & Christian on Raw. A night later, Edge & Christian showed up ready to 'fight' for the belts. But Christian was taken out before the match, being put through a table (supposedly by the Dudleys). Edge, though, said he would have no problems beating Los Conquistadors on his own. However, Edge was thrown off when the Conquistadors came out and competitively wrestled him, instead of throwing the match. Edge then was beaten by the Conquistadors after a Twist of Fate followed by the Swanton Bomb. After the match, the Conquistadors unmasked, showing the Hardys! Commissioner Foley then came out and rolled footage, showing that Edge & Christian had been Los Conquistadors the night before. Foley then said that, indeed, Edge & Christian were the champions at the PPV, but since the Hardys pinned Edge on Raw, they had regained the belts!

Going into November '00, Edge & Christian continued to battle with the Hardys and the Dudleyz, their long-term foes. In a strange union, Edge & Christian joined up with Right To Censor, who won the Tag Titles from the Hardys, to face their respective adversaries at the 2000 Survivor Series. The eight men all showed that they truly hated their opposition, as the match had a lot of tension underneath it. Edge got the first strike for his team, as he took out Matt Hardy with the Edge-o-Matic for the pinfall. D'Von Dudley tried to take the momentum back by attacking both Edge & Christian, but this would backfire, as Christian got the Impaler to eliminate D'Von as well, making it 4-on-2. Teamwork, however, soon became a problem, as Edge, during some chaos, accidentally Speared Bull Buchanan. Bubba Ray Dudley then covered Bull to eliminate him. Bubba Ray then hammered Edge, with Christian trying to make the save by coming off the top rope. Bubba Ray moved, though, and Christian hit Edge instead! Bubba Ray tossed Christian out of the way and made the cover, taking care of Edge. Bubba Ray's power, however, was ended when the Goodfather took him out with a death valley driver. Christian & the Goodfather tried to double-team Jeff Hardy at the end, but Jeff fought back, eliminating Christian with the Swanton Bomb, then taking advantage of Val Venis (at ringside) accidentally hitting his partner, the Goodfather, to make the pin and win the match.

Edge & Christian didn't waste any time moping over their loss. They went right back to work climbing the contenders' ladder for the tag-team titles. At Rebellion '00, Edge & Christian had a "Three-Way Tables" Match with the Dudley Boyz and T & A. Edge & Christian were able to eliminate T & A by pushing Albert off the turnbuckle and through a table. But they couldn't get past the Dudleys in their own match, as the Dudley Boyz 3-D'ed Christian for the victory. Edge & Chrisian and the Dudley Boyz were then included in the "Four-Way Tag-Team Title" Match at Armageddon '00, also involving Bull Buchanan & the Goodfather(c) and K-Kwik & the Road Dogg. For a while, different wrestlers were teaming together on double-teams, as each team sought to get that one pinfall that would get them the belts. In the end, chaos reigned, as all four teams went at it. The Dudleys seemed to be in control, hitting 3D's on both Bull and the Goodfather. But when Stevie Richards (part of Right To Censor) took out D'Von Dudley through a table, Edge & Christian capitalized, getting first a spear, then a tomakazie on Bubba Ray Dudley to win the match, becoming four-time tag-team champions.

Edge & Christian came out on the next Raw to celebrate with their friend, Kurt Angle, who had defended his Heavyweight Title in a Hell In A Cell 6-Man Match the night before. The three men praised each other, saying that they had had the most dominant year in WWF history. They were interrupted, though, by the Rock & the Dudley Boyz, who set up a Four T's Match, or a "Tag-Team Testicle Tables" Match. Edge & Christian were seen in the back after the announcement, a little worried that the match would mean their testicles would have to go through a table. In a way, that's what happened, as first Edge, then Christian, were put through tables, as the Dudley Boyz and the Rock got the victory.

A week later, Angle was placed into a World Title match against his boss, Vince McMahon, by Commissioner Foley, and asked Edge & Christian to try to get the match canceled. But Foley would hear none of it, and instead decided to put Edge & Christian's titles on the line in a match against the Rock & the Undertaker! Edge & Christian tried to win the match, with Edge taking advantage of a downed ref to clock the Undertaker with a title belt. But the Rock was too strong, getting the People's Elbow on Edge to get the victory, winning away the belts. A rematch was set up for Smackdown one day later (at the taping), with Angle arranging with Vince McMahon to be the "fair and impartial" referee. Angle obviously favored his friends, at one point 'arguing' with Christian instead of counting a fall for the Undertaker, who had just hit the Last Ride on Edge. The Rock later took out Angle with the Rock Bottom, then nearly won with a new referee. At the end, however, Angle returned to the ring and nailed the Rock with the Angle Slam, then placed Edge on top of him and made the count, getting the belts back to Edge & Christian.

Going into the new year, Edge & Christian continued to battle both on the side of Kurt Angle and against the threat of the Dudley Boyz. Going into the '01 Royal Rumble, Edge & Christian had the definite advantage, as they gave both Dudleys a concussion with chair shots the week before the PPV match between them. The Dudleys started out well in the title match, dominating Edge, but Christian turned things around by hitting D'Von in the head from the outside. Later on, Edge & Christian appeared to go for a DQ, as they tried for a ConChairTo on D'Von, only to have D'Von block it with a double clothesline. D'Von then made the tag to Bubba Ray, who came in with all the momentum, dominating the tag-team champs. The Dudleys, at the end, went for the 3-D on Christian, only to have Edge stop it with a Spear on Bubba Ray. Edge & Christian showboated, though, opting to try the Dudleys' own move, the Wassup Drop, on Bubba Ray. D'Von blocked it, taking out Christian, and the Dudleys then got the 3-D on Edge to win the match, costing Edge & Christian the Tag-Team Titles.

It didn't take long for Edge & Christian to quickly pursue regaining their tag-team titles from the Dudley Boyz. A surprising element was added to their feud, though, as Kane & the Undertaker, the Brothers of Destruction, also announced their interest in the belts. A brutal match was signed for No Way Out '01, setting up a "Three-Way Tables" Match for the Tag-Team Titles. Although the match rules seemed to favor either the Dudleys or the Brothers of Destruction, Edge & Christian persevered, doing their best to try and get the victory. The six men actually started fighting it out on the entry ramp, and went backstage for a time, before finally making it to the ring. Edge & Christian tried to capitalize on the "No DQ" part of the match, going for a ConChairTo on Bubba Ray. But Bubba Ray ducked, forcing Edge & Christian to collide chairs. Several times during the match, a team was close to winning, only to have someone move the table out of the way. The Brothers of Destruction were in full control as the match headed towards its conclusion, chokeslamming all four opponents. But the two monsters were distracted by Rikishi & Haku, who came down to the ring and attacked them. As those two teams brawled, Edge & Christian and the Dudleys went at it, with Edge missing a crucial Spear on Bubba Ray. This left Christian on his own, and he was 3-D'ed through a table, allowing the Dudleys to retain the belts.

Edge & Christian were unhappy with the way things went down, and continued to be a thorn in the Dudleys' side, as they battled them routinely for the tag-team titles. Another tag-team, though, again became involved in their feud. But this time, it was an old rival, as the Hardy Boyz reentered the title fray. In early March '00, the Hardys defeated the Dudleys to regain the Tag-Team Titles. The Dudleys were supposed to have a rematch on the March 19th Raw, but Edge & Christian came out instead, saying that the Dudleys weren't there, and that Edge & Christian were taking the title shot instead. The match was a typical E & C/Hardys match-up, with Lita working as always to help out the Hardys. But Edge & Christian had their own surprise, as Rhyno made his return to the ring and Gored Jeff Hardy! Edge & Christian made the cover, winning the titles back.

Later on that same night, Edge & Christian celebrated their win, and told Rhyno he could go back to the hotel room, since he had done his job. We then saw the Dudley Boyz arriving at the local airport, complaining that someone (i.e. Edge & Christian) had canceled their reservations. When the Dudleys arrived at the arena, Commissioner William Regal told them that they were too late. But the Dudleys were able to convince Regal to give them a title shot that night, since they were the ones who were supposed to compete. Edge & Christian weren't happy, since Rhyno was no longer there to help them, but they had no choice. The four men had another hard fight, with Edge stopping D'Von from getting the tables late in the match by dropkicking the table into D'Von's face. However, another returnee, Spike Dudley, came down and gave Christian the Acid Drop, which set up Christian for the 3-D and the loss, making Edge & Christian champions for less than a few hours.

It was later announced that the three teams would try to duplicate their greatest match ever, as TLC II was signed for Wrestlemania X-7. The match started as a brawl and continued from there, as there were no real tags made. Each wrestler used tables, ladders, and chairs as lethal objects. Involvement also came from other areas, as first Spike Dudley, then Lita and Rhyno interfered for their favorites. At one point, Jeff Hardy found the largest ladder around and jumped off of it, getting a Swanton Bomb on both Spike Dudley and Rhyno, putting them all through two tables! Jeff later got back up and grabbed for the belts, hanging from them, but the swing brought him too close to Edge, who Speared him off to the ground! In the end, Rhyno proved to be the best ally, as he took care of Bubba Ray Dudley and Matt Hardy, sending them through a huge set-up of tables, then carried Christian up the ladder on his shoulders, allowing Christian to grab the belts and made himself and Edge 7-Time WWF World Tag-Team Champions.

A few weeks later, Edge & Christian became involved in the main event picture, as their friend, Rhyno, was facing Kane for the Hardcore Title on Smackdown. With the added help of Hunter Hearst Helmsley & Steve Austin, both of whom were heels at the time, Edge & Christian kept the Undertaker, Kane's partner, out of the picture, and the four men took down Kane to win Rhyno the Hardcore Title. However, the Brothers of Destruction later threatened Commissioner Regal to give them a Tag-Team Title shot against Edge & Christian that night in a "No Disqualification" Match. Edge & Christian didn't seem too worried, making sure to state that they "reeked of awesomeness". Edge & Christian came out with Rhyno to the ring, making it almost 3-on-2 for the titles. Since the Brothers would get Stone Cold & Triple H if they won the match, Austin & Helmsley also soon became involved. But despite Austin & Helmsley taking out Kane, the Undertaker was able to dodge a ConChairTo, take out Edge, and hit the Last Ride Powerbomb on Christian for the victory, taking away the belts.

Edge & Christian briefly put away their tag-team title pursuit after the pay-per-view, opting to try out the singles waters. Christian had more success, getting a European Title shot at the next PPV, but was unable to get the gold. This brought Edge & Christian back into the hunt for the WWF Tag Titles. At the UK pay-per-view, Insurrextion '01, Edge & Christian fought in an "Elimination" Match against the Dudleys, the Hardys, and X-Factor. The Hardys took care of X-Factor after Jeff hit X-Pac with the Swanton Bomb. But Edge & Christian basically ruled the rest of the way, as Christian eliminated the Hardys with the Unprettier on Matt, and, after some help from Rhyno, Edge pinned Bubba Ray Dudley to win the match. Edge & Christian took this momentum into Judgment Day '01 a few weeks later, where they were involved in a "Tag-Team Turmoil #1 Contenders" Match.

During the night, Edge & Christian were shown talking with Kurt Angle, who had a "Three Falls" Match against Chris Benoit, with Angle's gold medals on the line. Angle and Benoit won one fall each, leading to a "Ladder" Match competition with the medals above the ring. Just when Benoit had control, putting Angle in the Crippler Crossface, Edge & Christian came to the ring and attacked, holding back Benoit so that Angle could climb the ladder and get back his medals. Later on, during the "Tag-Team Turmoil" Match, Edge & Christian watched from the back as Chris Jericho came out with his mystery partner, who turned out to be Benoit! Jericho & Benoit defeated X-Factor, which brought Edge & Christian, the last team, down to the ring. The two teams went back and forth, with various close calls. Near the end, a frustrated Edge & Christian went for the chairs to perform a ConChairTo, only to have Jericho & Benoit baseball slide into them. Jericho & Benoit then attempted their own ConChairTo, only to have Christian nearly roll up Benoit for the victory. Christian then went to hit Benoit with the chair, but Benoit got the Crippler Crossface instead, making Christian tap. Thus, once again, Edge & Christian's friendship with Angle ended up costing them.

A short time after Judgment Day, the 2001 King of the Ring Tournament began, with both Edge & Christian in the mix. The two partners helped each other in their matches, with Christian getting past two monsters in Kane and the Big Show, while Edge took down Test and Perry Saturn. This got both tag-team partners into the semi-finals. However, in an interesting twist, the other two semi-finalists were Kurt Angle and Rhyno, Edge & Christian's good friends! The four men swore to remain friends, but tensions grew between the allies, with Angle's ego sending Edge & Christian away from him. On the final Smackdown before the PPV, Angle came out and said that, although he was happy to be facing his 3 friends, he's a man and they're boys. Edge & Christian responded by calling him a dorkimus maximus. Rhyno then came out, angry about how he was being treated as well. It all broke down, with Rhyno Gore-ing Edge and Angle giving Christian an Olympic Slam. The two teams fought later in the night, with Angle & Rhyno winning the match.

In the '01 King of the Ring semi-finals, Edge faced off against his former ally, Rhyno. The two wrestlers had a very physical match, with both hitting a Spear at the same time at one point. In the end, after Rhyno missed a Gore, Edge got a jumping DDT for the victory, moving on in the tournament. In the final, after Angle tried to convince Edge to forfeit, the two men went at it with a lot of violence. During the match, Christian came to the ring, but only succeeded in distracting the referee when Edge had a pin attempt. Later on, though, Edge, due to interference from Shane McMahon (who would face Angle in a Street Fight later in the night), defeated Angle with the jumping DDT, becoming the King of the Ring.

Over the next few weeks, Christian seemed to care more about the King of the Ring trophy that Edge had won, rather than his brother. He seemed a little jealous of Edge's success. The two continued to work as a team, however, against the new threat of the WCW Invasion. Things looked worse for the WWF superstars, as ECW reformed and allied themselves with WCW. The federation groups met at WWF Invasion in July '01, with Edge & Christian leading off the PPV facing off against ECW wrestlers Lance Storm & Mike Awesome. The two Alliance members isolated Christian for a good portion of the match, but Christian eventually made the hot tag to Edge, who came in and furiously attacked both opponents. It soon broke down into a four-man brawl. Christian dodged a Storm superkick at one point, only to have Edge hit by it instead. Awesome only managed a 2 count on Edge, though, and Christian came back to Spear Awesome and put Edge on top for the victory for WWE. It also gave Christian the 'right' to brag about winning the match with Edge's own move.

Things seemed to continue to grow worse between Edge and Christian, as Christian's ego continually got the better of him. At Summerslam '01, Edge was given a chance to gain the WWF Intercontinental Title back from the Alliance, or more specifically, Lance Storm. At the beginning of the match, Christian watched from the back, cheering Edge on with the WWF contingent. But when the referee was knocked down, Christian ran to the ring to try and take out Storm with another Spear. Unfortunately, Storm dodged, and Christian Speared Edge instead! Christian then was taken out of the ring by a Storm superkick. But Edge kicked out of the pin attempt, then got an Implant DDT to win the match and the title, becoming a two-time Intercontinental Champion.

On a Raw show only a few weeks later, Edge got into a confrontation in the backstage area with Hugh Morrus, a member of the Alliance. As they stared each other down, Christian, for some reason, got involved, basically giving Morrus what he wanted: a shot against Edge with the IC Title on the line. The two men faced off in a back-and-forth match later on, with Christian deciding things by attacking Morrus, causing the disqualification. Although Edge kept the Intercontinental strap, he was unhappy with Christian due to the loss. However, Edge still had his brother's back on Smackdown, as Christian was given a shot against the Rock for the WCW Heavyweight Title. Christian, before the match, gave Edge back the KOTR trophy, saying that it was Edge's, and that he would soon have more gold. But, despite interference from Booker T & Shane McMahon, Christian couldn't get it done, losing to the champ.

Later on in the night, Edge had a scheduled Intercontinental Title defense against Lance Storm. In another furious match, Edge was injured by Storm's Maple Leaf submission hold, but won anyway with a roll-up pin. Storm attacked Edge after the match, going after the leg, but Christian came to the ring with a chair to get rid of Storm. Christian then hugged Edge and gave him the KOTR trophy, but then, shockingly, nailed Edge with a chair shot! Christian blamed Edge for his recent losses, angrily cursing his own brother! Christian then set Edge's head on top of a steel chair, then got another, giving Edge a ConChairTo shot. Christian then departed the ring, leaving his brother down and out inside the ropes, with the KOTR trophy that started it all laying nearby.

Christian later demanded an Intercontinental Title shot against Edge at the next pay-per-view, Unforgiven '01. Edge was glad to oblige, going after his brother with all his heart. Edge's fury was so strong that, at the beginning of the match, Christian retreated down the aisleway and was chased by Edge, who threw Christian into the stage. The two men fought back to the ring, with blood being spilled between the brothers when Edge's head was cut open from a shot to the ring steps. Christian, in his fury, eventually tried another one-man ConChairTo, but Edge stopped him. Edge then tried to set up the same maneuver on Christian, but the referee stopped him, allowing Christian to slip in a low blow with the other chair and get the quick pin, stealing away the IC Title.

The brothers continued to feud for the next few weeks, but it seemed that things were going to be changed by a tragedy, as Edge was told that their mother had been in an accident. Edge went and found Christian, and the two brothers looked to be leaving together. But the Alliance ambushed Edge, and Christian joined in, showing that Christian had left the WWF and was now part of the WCW/ECW Alliance! At No Mercy '01, Edge got an Intercontinental Title shot against his brother in a "Ladder" Match. As expected from these two ladder experts, the match saw some incredible moments. At one point, Christian was climbing the ladder for the belt, but Edge actually jumped off the ropes and Speared Christian off the ladder. The two later climbed the ladder together and fought on the top, only to have the ladder fall, sending both to the outside. In the end, Christian seemed to have the lead, climbing up. But Edge came in with a chair, and gave Christian a painful low blow. Edge then got a ConChairTo variation, sending Christian off the ladder and allowing Edge to easily get the belt to win the match.

Edge wasn't done with Christian, though, as the two brothers faced off at the United Kingdom pay-per-view, Rebellion '01, in an Intercontinental Title Steel Cage Match. The match was, of course, a violent one, with Christian trying to escape every chance he got. This almost worked for Christian, as he managed to climb over the top and work his way down. But Edge pulled his brother's feet through the cage, trapping him. Edge then climbed up as well and jumped down, clotheslining the helpless Christian along the way before touching the ground and winning the match.

Going into November, Edge expanded his attention from Christian to the entire Alliance, blaming them, in a way, for taking his brother in. This backfired on Edge, though, as at the beginning of November, he wrestled Test with the IC Title on the line. Just when Edge was about to get the victory by climbing the top rope, Test shoved the referee into the ropes, knocking Edge down. Test then rolled up Edge and grabbed the ropes, holding on for the 3 count and taking away Edge's IC Title. However, only a week later, Edge challenged Kurt Angle for the WCW United States Title, and won when Angle was distracted by Kane. With another title around his waist, Edge continued to feud with Test, setting up a "Unification" Match at the '01 Survivor Series. It was a tough battle for Edge, but he was able to turn a Test miscue into a roll-up for the victory, winning the IC Championship and unifying it with the WCW US Title (which was retired that night).

After the collapse of the Alliance at the Survivor Series '01, William Regal, one of the Alliance members, was allowed back into the WWF by Vince McMahon, by literally kicking McMahon's behind. Edge made fun of this smooch, and a feud between the two wrestlers began to grow, especially with Regal's reliance on brass knuckles in his matches. At Vengeance '01, Edge granted Regal a title shot, and the two wrestlers went at it in a brawl disguised as a wrestling match. Edge was in control for a while, but when he missed a spear attempt off the apron and hit the steel stairs, he was in bad shape. Regal, meanwhile, pulled out his brass knuckles and kept them hidden, even as he threw Edge back into the ring and got a close 2 count (with Edge's foot on the ropes). After the two men traded shots a few more times, Regal had had enough, putting on the knuckles. However, his distraction was his undoing, as Edge got the Spear and made the cover, retaining the title.

Edge and Regal continued to meet up as the new year began, with the feud continuing to get more violent, involving steel chairs as well as brass knuckles. Edge even broke Regal's nose with an Edgecution onto a chair. At the Royal Rumble '02, Edge met up with Regal again, with Edge saying that if Regal wanted to play dirty, Edge can play dirty, too. The two wrestlers fought long and hard against each other, with neither one wanting the loss on his record. Regal almost won at one point with the Regal Stretch, but Edge escaped, then came back with his own version of the Real Stretch, causing Regal to have to get out of his own hold. Near the end, as Regal went into his shorts for the brass knuckles, Edge charged at him for a Spear, but knocked out the referee as well. This allowed Regal his chance, and he knocked out Edge with the brass knuckles to win the match, taking away the Intercontinental Title.

The rubber match was set up at No Way Out '02, with a "Brass Knuckles On A Pole" Match being signed between the two fighters. Edge quickly struck at Regal, as the fight started on the outside. It eventually made its way back into the ring, as both wrestlers kept their eyes on the prize above them, looking for the moment to go for them. Regal got the momentum by throwing Edge to the outside after a pole-climbing attempt failed, causing Edge to bleed from the mouth. The Regal Stretch was again applied, but Edge managed to get to the ropes. After a few more moves, Regal was able to get the brass knuckles off the pole, but Edge blocked their use with a belly-to-back suplex, then got the Spear. Edge went out and got the brass knuckles and came back, but Regal surprisingly had brass knuckles of his own, having gotten them out of his trunks. Regal knocked out Edge with two punches and got the pinfall, keeping the belt away from Edge. Edge got a little revenge on Regal on the next Raw, though, as he & Rob Van Dam defeated Regal & Goldust, with Edge forcing Regal to tap out.

Near the end of February '02, Booker T had announced that he was getting an audition for a Japanese shampoo commercial. He bragged about it for a few weeks, practicing his Japanese (while also insulting the Japanese). However, at the same time, Edge was also getting involved in the audition, and on the February 28th Smackdown, Edge was announced as the winner of the commercial. This led to a feud between Edge and Booker T, going into Wrestlemania X-8. Edge continually made fun of Booker T, who didn't help himself by wearing glasses and trying to use big words. Before the PPV match, Booker T talked about how he aced his SATs, and that his thesis was on the "Theory of Relatives". He then promised to take out Edge later in the show.

The two men met up in one of the mid-card matches at Wrestlemania X-8. Obviously, it would be the first major WWF pay-per-view match built on a feud over a Japanese advertising campaign. Booker T was in control early on, getting a Missile Dropkick for a 2 count. Edge came back, though, with a frankensteiner off the top rope. Edge later got a spinning heel kick off the top rope for his own close pinfall attempt, with Booker T barely kicking out. Near the end, Booker T performed his Spinaroonie, followed by his Axe Kick, but Edge got out of the pin, frustrating Booker T. This left him vulnerable, as Edge got the Spear, then performed his OWN Spinaroonie (or Edgaroonie, if you wish). The Edgecution was next, taking out Booker T and giving Edge the Wrestlemania victory.

WWF Smackdown: 2002

A few weeks after the PPV, Ric Flair and Vince McMahon had a "Talent Draft", with Flair running Raw while McMahon was in charge of Smackdown. With pick #6, McMahon chose Edge, making him a resident of Smackdown. Edge soon built up a feud with his old ally, Kurt Angle. On one Smackdown, Edge got with Angle apparently wanting to talk about old times. He showed Angle a series of photographs between the two men, while having writing on the back of each picture, saying things like "Yes, I do suck" and "p.s. I have no testicles". When Angle found out about the writing, he fought Edge later in the night, using a steel chair to block an Edge Spear, causing the DQ. Edge would team up regularly with Hulk Hogan over the next few weeks, as they battled against Angle & Chris Jericho.

At Backlash '02, Edge and Kurt Angle had another tremendous match, with neither wrestler truly dominating at any point. Angle hit several suplexes early on, taking it to Edge, who answered back with his own suplex-variations. Edge took control by throwing Angle out of the ring, then getting a cross-body on him on the outside. Edge brought Angle back into the ring and went for the Edgecution, but, after a couple of reversals, Angle landed the Angle Slam for a close 2 count. Edge was then put in the Ankle Lock, yelling out in pain. But Edge managed to turn the submission hold into a quick roll-up, nearly stealing the match. Angle snapped, going for a steel chair. But when he swung, Edge dodged, which made the chair bounce off the ropes and hit Angle in the face instead. Edge then caught Angle with the Edge-o-matic, but Angle surprisingly kicked out at the last second. Edge, somewhat frustrated, tried for a Spear, but Angle booted him in the face, then got the Angle Slam, pinning Edge.

WWE Smackdown: 2002

On the next Smackdown, Angle bragged about his victory, and announced that he would be displaying a new t-shirt with all of his accomplishments listed on it. Edge, though, switched the shirts, causing Angle to show off a shirt saying "You Suck!" Later in the night, Edge & Rikishi teamed up against Angle & Albert, with Albert getting the victory by taking out Rikishi with the Baldo Bomb. Edge and Angle continued to feud for the next few weeks, with the two men signing to face each other at the next pay-per-view in a "Hair vs. Hair" Match. During this time, it was announced that the WWF was "getting the F out", becoming World Wrestling Entertainment (due to a lawsuit with the World Wildlife Fund). At one point during the month, Angle & Jericho ambushed Edge & Hunter Hearst Helmsley, with Angle cutting off a lock of Edge's hair. Angle would brag about the lock of hair for a while, saying that it was only the beginning.

At Judgment Day '02, the two men faced off in the "Hair vs. Hair" Match, with a barber chair set up on the stage for the loser's 'trim'. The two wrestlers fought both in the ring and on the outside, with neither wanting to lose their hair that night. Angle was interested in putting Edge out, using a sleeper hold early in the match. Edge came back, catching Angle on the outside with a flying plancha, then later getting a missile dropkick for the 2 count. But Angle was still fighting, catching Edge later on the turnbuckle and tossing him across the ring. As the match wound down, Edge accidentally took out the referee with the Spear. Angle tried to take advantage, going to the outside and getting a chair, but Edge stopped the attempted cheating with a Spear. He tried for the cover, but the ref was still down. Later on, with the ref somewhat recovered, Edge got a second Spear for a close pinfall. But Angle came back with a Spear of his own, followed by the Angle Slam, with Edge barely kicking out. Angle went beserk, thinking that should have been it. He got on the Ankle Lock, only to have Edge escape with an Enziguiri. Angle came right back, locking on the Ankle Lock again, but Edge rolled him up for the pinfall, winning the match!

Afterwards, Angle tried to get away, attacking Edge, but Edge took him down with the Edgecution. Edge then tried to bring Angle over to the barber chair, where the equipment was waiting. But Angle broke free before they could begin, kicking away Edge and running to the back. Edge chased Angle throughout the night, with Angle hiding once in a make-up chair with a hair cap on. Angle eventually went on the offensive, hitting Edge with a garbage can lid and dragging Edge to the barber chair, yelling for the barber to come out. Angle then tried to take Edge out so that he could trim him, but Edge reversed the Angle Slam into a sleeperhold, knocking Angle out! This allowed the barber to go to work, taking off all of Angle's hair, making him bald! Afterwards, when Angle woke up to what had happened, Edge said that the fans would no longer chant "You Suck!" They would chant "You're Bald!" instead.

On the next Smackdown, Angle came out wearing a wig and bragging that his hair had grown back in less than a week. Edge (along with Maven) tried to disprove this by removing the wig, but Christian intervened, helping to save Angle. Edge & Maven faced off against Angle & Christian later in the night, with Maven getting the win by rolling up Christian. Edge and Angle faced off the next week in a "Steel Cage" Match, which quickly turned violent, as Edge was busted open. During the melee, the referee was knocked out (a common danger in Edge/Angle matches). Angle had complete control after getting the Angle Slam off the top rope. He then climbed the cage and escaped, only to have Hulk Hogan come down and attacked him, throwing Angle back into the cage to continue the match! Later on, after the men traded Ankle Locks, Angle again tried to escape, only to again be countered by Hogan, who opened the door as Angle went down, crotching him on the cage door! Edge pulled him back in, keeping the match going, then later got the victory by getting a huge Spear from the top rope! Afterwards, Hogan tried to de-wig Angle, with no success.

Although Edge won the match, he lost out from the bout, coming out of it with an injured shoulder from the Spear off the top rope. He came to the ring on the next Smackdown and talked about his injury, having to forfeit his qualifying match in the King of the Ring tournament to Chris Jericho. Edge also said, though, that he would return to win the Undisputed Championship. This wasn't good enough for Jericho, who came out and demanded that Edge raise his hand in victory. Edge refused, so Jericho attacked the injured wrestler, slamming him into the ringsteps and smashing a steel chair into Edge's injured shoulder. Val Venis finally came to make the save, chasing off Jericho and checking on the injured Edge.

A few weeks later, Jericho was involved in a match against Hulk Hogan. The match basically went to a No-Contest, as Jericho resorted to weapons against the Hulkster, slamming him into the steel steps, then going for a chair. As Jericho prepared to take Hogan out, though, Jericho's own theme music started, and a person was seen on stage, posing like Y2J. The man then turned around to show that Edge had returned! Edge got a Spear on Jericho, hammering him down, and went to work on the man who had tried to worsen his injury. Jericho eventually retreated, leaving Edge & Hogan to celebrate Edge's return inside the squared circle. A week later, Edge & Hogan teamed up again, utilizing their momentum to defeat Billy & Chuck to win the WWE World Tag-Team Titles, Edge's 9th reign as tag-team champion.

Edge & Hogan feuded with Lance Storm & Christian after winning the belts, as well as Edge continuing to have confrontations with Jericho, who had joined with Storm, Christian, & Test as the UnAmericans. At Vengeance '02, the two tag-teams faced off with the Tag-Team Titles on the line. The four wrestlers went all out, as usual. Also as usual, Edge's Spear went awry at one point, as Storm dodged, causing Edge to take out the referee. Edge then got the Edgecution on Storm, but with no ref to count, the match continued. Meanwhile, Test came down to the ring and took out Hogan & Edge, only to have Rikishi appear and brawl with Test. Edge came back to get a Spear on Storm, but as the referee (recovered) argued with Hogan and Christian's brawl, Jericho came to the ring and knocked out Edge with one of the Tag-Team Titles. Storm then got the pinfall to win the match, winning the WWE Tag-Team Titles for the UnAmericans.

On the next Smackdown, Edge was signed for a "Steel Cage" Match against Jericho. Before the match, though, Edge was confronted by GM Stephanie McMahon, who had heard that a star would be jumping to Raw. Edge assured McMahon that he wouldn't be leaving, and he showed McMahon a tape of a countdown to his match with Y2J. The two men made the match as brutal as possible, with Jericho bringing a chair into the ring and nailing Edge for a 2 count. The two men both tried to escape the cage, usually ending up with the other wrestler dropping them all the way to the ring floor. In the end, it became a race, as Jericho crawled towards the cage door, while a bloody Edge climbed up the cage. Edge won the match in a painful way, basically falling from the top to make it to the floor first. After the match, the UnAmericans came to the ring and beat on Edge, with first John Cena, then Rey Mysterio making the save (Mysterio jumped from the top of the cage onto Storm & Christian).

Going into August '02, Edge's feud with the UnAmericans suddenly ended, as Christian, Test, Storm, & Jericho all jumped to Raw. They were replaced by Eddie Guerrero & Chris Benoit, who jumped to Smackdown and joined with Kurt Angle in feuding with Edge, Mysterio, & (occassionally) Cena. At Summerslam '02, Edge fought in a match against Eddie Guerrero. Edge held his own in the early going, but when Edge injured his shoulder on the outside, Guerrero zeroed in on it, working it over. Guerrero dominated for a while, but Edge started coming back after getting his knees up after Guerrero tried the Frogsplash. Both men traded their finishers, with each kicking out from the pinfall attempt afterward. In the end, Edge got a massive Spear on Guerrero, blocking out the pain from his shoulder, and pinned Guerrero for the victory.

Edge and Guerrero faced off in a rematch on the next Smackdown. Near the end, Guerrero brought a couple of chairs into the ring, with Edge managing to grab one of them. Before he could hit Guerrero, though, the ref intervened, taking away the chair. Edge then went for a Spear, but Guerrero had the second chair ready, using it to 'block' the Spear. An unconscious Edge couldn't fight back as Guerrero climbed the turnbuckle and delivered the Frogsplash, evening the series at 1-1 between the two. A week later, Edge teamed with John Cena against Eddie & his relative, Chavo Guerrero Jr. Los Guerreros got the victory, but afterwards, when Eddie tried to shove Edge's face into Chavo's rear end, Edge reversed it, causing Eddie to go in instead. The next week, though, Guerrero got some revenge after a tag-team match between Edge & Rikishi and Los Guerreros, with Eddie bloodying Edge with a steel chair shot.

Edge and Eddie Guerrero had the third match of their series at Unforgiven '02. The two adversaries put on another excellent match, showing that they were two of the most talented wrestlers on Smackdown. Near the end of the match, Guerrero removed one of the turnbuckle pads, apparently setting up Edge. Edge blocked it at one point, but was later sent into it by Guerrero, stunning him. Guerrero then came off the turnbuckle with a sunset flip and grabbed the trunks, pinning Edge to the mat for the 3 count.

An upset Edge set up another match between the two men on the next Smackdown, getting a "No Disqualification" Match to try to end the feud. The match was one of the best of the year, especially for a non-PPV event, as ladders and chairs soon became involved. At one point, while the ref was down, Edge dodged a Frogsplash, then got the Spear, but the second referee was too slow, as Guerrero kicked out after two. Guerrero later came back on Edge, and got an amazing Senton Splash on his foe while he was sandwiched between two ladders. Guerrero later got a Sunset Flip-Powerbomb on Edge coming off one of the ladders, getting a 2 count. Edge finally started to rebound, with a painful-looking backdrop on Guerrero, sending Eddie head-first into a ladder! Both wrestlers later climbed the ladder in the middle of the ring, with Edge winning the battle by getting an Edgecution off the ladder on Guerrero! Edge then made the pin, winning the incredible match that had the fans cheering both wrestlers afterwards, giving Guerrero a standing ovation.

Edge got another big win on the next Smackdown, as he had another incredible match, this time with Kurt Angle. The match, at one point, ended with a double pin, with 2 different referees calling for a different winner. The match was restarted, and Edge took advantage of Angle accidentally hitting himself in the head with a chair (while swinging at Chris Benoit) to Spear Angle and get the victory. A week later, Edge joined up again with Rey Mysterio Jr in the first-ever WWE Smackdown Tag-Team Title Tournament. Edge & Mysterio defeated Brock Lesnar & Tajiri and Ron Simmons & Reverend D-Von to make it to the finals of the tournament. Ironically, Edge & Mysterio would be facing Angle & Benoit, who had been forced to team up by GM Stephanie McMahon to be in the tournament.

At No Mercy '02, the two teams met up, each duo with their eyes on the prize: to be crowned the first-ever Smackdown Tag-Team Champions. The match really featured the speed and agility of Edge & Mysterio versus the technical wrestling skills of Benoit & Angle. Throughout the match, momentum switched back and forth many times. Near the end, after Mysterio had been double-teamed for a while, he managed to make the hot tag to Edge, who came in strong, attacking both men. Edge nearly won the match with a hurricanrana on Angle, but dodged out of the pin when Benoit came off the rope with a diving headbutt, causing Benoit to hit Angle instead. Edge then went for the Spear on Angle, but Benoit recovered enough to get the Crippler Crossface on Edge. However, Edge was able to toss Benoit to the outside, then 'threw' Mysterio over on top of Benoit. Angle tried to seize the moment by going for the Ankle Lock, only to have Edge reverse into his own version of the submission hold. But Angle re-reversed it, and tightened his hold, forcing Edge to tap out and give Angle & Benoit the titles.

Edge & Mysterio stayed in the tag-team title hunt on the next Smackdown, as they won a "#1 Contenders" Match over Los Guerreros. Edge also had other worries, though, as he was placed in a "Handicap" Match against the Smackdown Heavyweight Champion, Brock Lesnar, & his manager, Paul Heyman. Edge vowed to make good on his first Smackdown Title match. Edge had a lot of trouble against the champion, but would still have gotten the win after an Edgecution on Lesnar, if the referee hadn't been down. Edge also got a Spear on Lesnar, but the champ used the downed referee to his advantage, using a chair on Edge, then getting the F-5 to win the match. Afterwards, while Lesnar celebrated on the way back to the dressing room, Heyman, angry at Edge getting a Spear on him during the match, got the chair and went to injure Edge, only to have Edge reverse his chairshot, then get the Edgecution on Heyman, knocking him cold.

At the beginning of November '02, Edge & Mysterio were granted their title shot against Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit in a "Three Falls" Match. The action, as expected, was fast and furious. Edge & Mysterio used teamwork early on, and got the first fall with Edge lifting Benoit in the air for Mysterio's Bombs Away, making it almost like a powerbomb pin. Edge & Mysterio concentrated on quickly getting the second fall and the belts, but the plan backfired when Edge missed a Spear on Angle and got the referee instead. Benoit used Edge's mistake to knock him down with one of the tag-team titles, then Angle followed up with the Ankle Lock, forcing Edge to tap in front of the recovering referee. With the count at 1-1, the match broke down into a four-way brawl, with Mysterio getting a victory roll on Angle to apparently get the victory. But a replay showed that Angle was holding the ropes, so the third fall was restarted. Mysterio was dominated for a time, but he managed the tag to Edge, who cleaned house, getting the Edge-o-Matic on Angle. Angle came back with the Ankle Lock, but Edge was able to drive him into the turnbuckle to escape, and Mysterio amazingly spun around the turnbuckle to get a unique 619. Edge landed the Spear, then dodged Benoit's flying headbutt attempt, again making Benoit hit Angle. As Mysterio took care of Benoit, Edge made the pin, winning the Smackdown Tag Titles for himself & Mysterio.

Only 10 days later, Edge & Mysterio brought the Smackdown Tag belts into the '02 Survivor Series, set to defend them in a "Triple Threat" Match with Angle & Benoit and Los Guerreros. It seemed that Angle & Benoit were going to work well as a team despite their animosity, but things fell apart for the former champs after Chavo Guerrero hit Benoit with one of the tag-team titles, then Angle got the belt. Benoit argued with Angle, thinking that he was the one to hit Benoit. Edge took advantage, Spearing Benoit and eliminating one of the teams, leaving only Edge & Mysterio and Los Guerreros. Angle & Benoit didn't leave quietly, though, with the two men attacking the four and leaving bodies laying everywhere, including an Angle Slam on Edge. After Angle & Benoit left, the two teams still in the match got back into it, with Edge getting a massive double-spear on Los Guerreros! Just when it seemed like the champs had all the momentum, however, Mysterio was hit by one of the tag-team titles, allowing Eddie Guerrero to get his El Paso Lasso submission hold applied. Mysterio tapped, giving the belts to Los Guerreros.

Edge & Mysterio teamed together for a few more weeks, looking for a chance to get back to the Tag-Team Titles. But at the beginning of December '02, Mysterio was deliberately injured by Albert, who used a chair on Mysterio's knee. Edge chased Albert away, but Mysterio was placed on the shelf. Edge was scheduled in a "Four-Way #1 Contenders" Match later that night, but Edge seemed more interested in getting his hands on Albert, brawling with him near the interview area. Albert got revenge later in the night, as he attacked Edge with the chair during Edge's intro for the Four-Way Match, nearly eliminating Edge from the bout. Edge limped out, though, making it a true Four-Way Elimination Match with Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, and Kurt Angle. Lots of finishers took place during this match. The first elimination came when Benoit forced Guerrero to tap out. Guerrero, though, helped in turn to eliminate Benoit, by illegally hitting Benoit with a Tag-Team Title, leaving him vulnerable to Edge's Spear. This left an injured Edge versus Angle, and the two men went back and forth. In the end, Angle got an Angle Slam off the top rope on Edge to win the match, keeping Edge from getting a World Title shot.

Edge didn't worry about the loss, though. He just wanted a piece of Albert. The two men feuded for the next few weeks, with Albert changing his name to "A-Train" when he joined with Paul Heyman's stable. At Armageddon '02, Edge and A-Train met up, with revenge on Edge's mind. A-Train dominated with his power early on, though, while Edge had to use his speed advantage to take control. A-Train nearly won with a Baldo Bomb, but Edge managed to kick out at the last second. Edge, though, came back to get the Spear, and had the momentum. This explains why A-Train got a chair and attacked Edge's leg, causing the disqualification. As A-Train went to permanently injure Edge, though, Edge reversed a chair shot, then took the chair and went crazy on A-Train nailing him repeatedly with the steel chair, showing that things were nowhere near settled between them.

On the next Smackdown, Edge and A-Train again met up, in a vicious brawl. The match went similar to Armageddon, with Edge taking control and getting several close 2-counts, including one with the Edge-o-Matic. A-Train nearly got the win himself with his bicycle kick, as Edge barely raised the shoulder. In the end, Edge escaped the Baldo Bomb with a dropkick, then got the Spear for the victory, finally getting some revenge. Edge finished out the year with a tag-team title match, joining with Billy Kidman to take on Los Guerreros. However, the champs didn't want the match, first trying to get themselves counted out, then going for the DQ. Both times, though, the referee stopped the attempt, making the match No-DQ, No-Countout. This made it look like Edge & Kidman could get the win, as they had control near the end. But A-Train again was a factor, as he came down and attacked Edge, taking him out and leaving Kidman to be nailed by Los Guerreros and pinned, ruining Edge's shot at the belts.

Going into the new year, Edge began joining with Chris Benoit in his feud against Team Angle (Kurt Angle, Charlie Haas, & Shelton Benjamin). The five wrestlers had several different matches between the two factions throughout January. Edge also competed in the '03 Royal Rumble, coming in as wrestler #5. Edge had a good night, eliminating Chavo Guerrero Jr, Bill DeMott, and Bull Buchanan, but he couldn't compete with the luck of the draw, eventually being tossed out by Chris Jericho. Edge continued to join with Benoit, as well as helping out his returning partner, Rey Mysterio. At No Way Out '03, Edge was signed to team with Benoit & Brock Lesnar against Team Angle. But Edge was taken out in the back, and couldn't make the match, making it a "Handicap" Match for his partners (Benoit & Lesnar still won). Meanwhile, Edge underwent neck surgery, putting him on the shelf for over a year.

WWE Raw: 2004

In March '04, after Wrestlemania, a draft lottery was announced between Eric Bischoff's Raw and Paul Heyman's Smackdown. During the lottery, Edge was surprisingly one of the names picked to switch to Raw. Later in the night, Edge made his first appearance in a WWE ring in a year, coming out to greet Bischoff. Edge didn't shake hands, though. He speared the General Manager, then left to the cheers of the crowd. As a repercussion for the spear, Edge was put into a match with the Big Red Machine, Kane, and subsequently had his hand injured. Edge used this to his advantage, smacking Kane in the head with the cast on the next Raw to knock him out. Later, Johnny Nitro, who was the assistant for Bischoff at the time, told Edge that if he used the cast in any way at the next PPV, where he had a match with Kane, he would be disqualified. Edge answered with a Spear to Nitro, and left the building.

At Backlash '04, Edge and Kane has their chance to go at it. Edge was the first man on the offensive, trying to keep the monster on the defensive with some stiff attacks. He went to take Kane to the outside, clearing off the Spanish Announcers' table, but Kane stopped that by attacking Edge's broken hand. The two wrestlers brawled back and forth, with Kane punishing Edge's injury. At one point, Kane went for the chokeslam, but Edge blocked it. Near the end, the referee was taken out of the ring, allowing Edge to use his cast, knocking Kane out. As the referee returned, Edge made the pin, getting a major victory over one of the strongest wrestlers on Raw.

On the next Raw, Randy Orton came out to gloat about his victory over Mick Foley in a "Hardcore" Match at Backlash. He bragged about how he was now the Living Legend. Edge then came out and got in Orton's face, saying that he wanted to test Orton's skills. When Orton tried to refuse, telling Edge that he wasn't worth it, Edge attacked him, but then was taken down by Orton's stable, Evolution. Chris Benoit, the Raw World Champ, tried to make the save, only to be Pedigreed by Hunter Hearst Helmsley. Bischoff later announced that Edge & Benoit would be facing two other Evolution members, Ric Flair & Batista, for the Raw Tag-Team Titles. The match was a wild one, with Triple H on the outside to lend his hand at interfering. Near the end, Edge blocked a Batista Bomb with a cast shot, and Benoit got his Flying Headbutt, only to have Triple H pull him out of the ring. Shawn Michaels then ran down and took out Helmsley with some Sweet Chin Music, allowing Edge, without any further interference, to get the Spear on Batista and pin him, winning the Raw Tag-Team belts for him & Benoit.

Edge & Benoit had a rematch with the Evolution members on the next Raw, with similar results, as Edge Speared Flair to get the win. After the match, Shawn Michaels came down again to get rid of Helmsley, but accidentally hit Benoit with a chair shot. Edge got in his face, but figured out it was a mistake. Benoit didn't, though, instead putting Michaels in the Crippler Crossface, with Edge trying to get him to drop the hold. A week later, Edge was a key figure in a Six-Man Match featuring him, Shelton Benjamin, & Tajiri against Helmsley, Orton, & Batista. Edge got the win by Spearing Orton, his third Evolution victory in a row. This earned Edge an Intercontinental Title shot against Orton for the next week, which Edge nearly won as well. But Flair interfered multiple times in the match, and in the end, took the Spear meant for Orton, who then rolled up Edge and held the tights to get the cheap win.

The war with Evolution continued the next week, as Edge & Benoit successfully defended the Raw Tag Titles over Orton & Batista. Later in the night, Edge competed in a "#1 Contenders Battle Royal". Edge lasted quite a long while, and Speared many of the contenders, but eventually was eliminated by Orton. Kane eventually won the match. Edge battled Flair the next week, winning the match despite Evolution interference. A week later, Edge & Benoit defended the Raw Tag Titles against La Resistance in Quebec, Canada. Not too surprisingly, the French team won out, in part due to Edge accidentally Spearing Benoit, costing them the Tag-Team Titles. There seemed to be some building problems between Edge and Benoit due to this, but they continued to work as a team, with Edge saving Benoit during a "Handicap" Match against La Resistance. Bischoff, taking offense to the 'interference', first gave Edge & Benoit a title rematch against La Resistance at the next PPV, then made Edge & Benoit fight a "3-on-2" Match against La Resistance & Kane. Although Edge & Benoit gave it their all, Kane was unable to be beaten, fighting out of the Crossface and Chokeslamming Benoit.

At Bad Blood '04, Edge & Benoit got their title rematch against La Resistance, while Benoit would also have to defend the Raw World Title later that night against Kane. Edge began the match for his team, and he would stay in for a while, as Sylvain Grenier & Rob Conway double-teamed him, preventing him from making the tag. But Edge persevered, eventually reversing a double-team maneuver into a double neckbreaker, buying him the time needed to make the tag to the fresh Benoit. Edge and Benoit then worked together to take down the French tag-team. With Benoit closing in on the victory with the Crossface applied to Grenier, Kane came down to ringside and attacked, forcing the disqualification. Edge & Benoit got the win, but did not regain the titles. Benoit got some revenge later that night for Edge, though, beating Kane and keeping his own belt.

Edge & Benoit joined with Chris Jericho to continue feuding with Evolution over the next few weeks, with Edge mainly focusing on the Intercontinental Champion, Randy Orton. On one Raw, while Orton was distracted by the antics of the Rock, Edge came in from out of the crowd and Speared him. Later in the night, however, Orton & Batista got some revenge, as they faced Edge & Chris Jericho in a tag match. When Jericho was put out of action, Edge had to fight a Handicap Match, which eventually ended up with a bloody Edge being pinned after an RKO. Edge & Jericho got a rematch a week later, with Edge handling a lot of the duties since Jericho was still suffering from a concussion. Thanks to Batista accidentally nailing Orton with his lariat, Edge & Jericho were able to get the victory, evening the series. On the Raw before the next PPV, Vengeance '04, Edge & Chris Benoit were put into a Handicap Match against Triple H, Ric Flair, & Eugene (who was being manipulated by Evolution). The manipulation worked, as Eugene hit Benoit with a steel chair, which was followed by a Triple H Pedigree for the finish.

At Vengeance '04, Edge went after Randy Orton's Intercontinental Title. The match started out as a back-and-forth affair, but when Edge began to gain momentum, Orton opted to leave, walking towards the back. This turned out to be a ploy, as Edge was taken down by Orton after pursuing him. Orton controlled the pace for a time, but Edge came back, getting a near fall on a missile dropkick. But Edge went for the Spear too soon, and took a knee to the face due to the mistake. The two wrestlers continued to exchange momentum, each showing off their wrestling talents inside the squared circle, as well as a few times outside of it. Orton nearly won after slamming Edge into an unpadded turnbuckle, but Edge kicked out of the pin attempt. In the end, Edge used the turnbuckle as well, whipping Orton into it, then following with a huge Spear to get the victory, winning the Intercontinental Title for the fifth time.

Twenty-four hours later, Edge had a non-title match with Batista on Raw. Despite Orton's interference (that got him sent away from ringside), Edge got the win by rolling up Batista and holding the top rope. Edge surprisingly continued his 'cheating' ways the next week, as he retained the Intercontinental Title over Randy Orton by getting a backslide & putting his feet on the ropes. A week later, a Battle Royal was announced, with the winner to get a World Title shot. Edge lasted for quite a while, and teamed with Chris Jericho to eliminate Batista. But when Edge turned his back, Jericho showed how much the title shot meant, eliminating him. Orton ended up winning the Battle Royal and earning the #1 Contender spot.

On the next Raw, Edge confronted Jericho during Jericho's Highlight Reel. Jericho announced that Edge would be defending his Intercontinental Title at Summerslam '04 in a "Triple Threat" Match, against Batista and himself. This added fuel to the fire, with Edge and Jericho ending up in a brawl on the Highlight Reel set. Edge took Jericho out with a Spear, then went for a steel chair. But Edge changed his mind, and helped Jericho up... only to be taken down by Jericho. Ironically, Edge & Jericho, along with Chris Benoit, had a six-man tag match in the main event that night against Randy Orton, Ric Flair, & Batista. Edge & Jericho's inability to work well cost their team, as Orton was able to get Benoit with the RKO for the victory. Edge and Jericho faced on in a non-title match a week later, with Jericho winning via roll-up/feet on ropes. After the match, while Jericho watched from the aisleway, Batista entered the ring and beat down the champion.

The much-anticipated Triple Threat match took place at Summerslam '04, with Edge defending the Intercontinental Title against both Jericho and Batista. The match started out with Edge knocked to the outside, while Jericho and Batista went at it. Batista definitely had the edge on the smaller Jericho in the beginning. Edge came back in and brawled with Batista as well, faring about the same. But Jericho's tripping of Batista allowed Edge to toss him to the outside. Jericho then entered, going at it with Edge and getting him into the Walls of Jericho. Batista broke up the submission hold, keeping the match going. In the end, Batista was on the outside, with Jericho having control over Edge. When Batista tried to reenter, Jericho nailed him with a springboard dropkick, knocking him down. But when Jericho turned around, Edge got the Spear, taking Jericho out and allowing Edge to get the pinfall victory, retaining the title.

On Raw the next night, Edge again had to defend the IC strap, this time against Kane. Although the Big Red Machine dominated Edge throughout a lot of the match, distractions by first Lita, then Matt Hardy, allowed Edge to get the Spear and win, keeping the belt around his waist. Edge battled Chris Jericho again a week later, again with the IC title on the line. Edge seemingly got the victory at one point, pinning Jericho. But another referee announced that, since Jericho's foot was on the ropes, the match had to continue. Jericho later nearly won with the Walls of Jericho, but Edge escaped via the ropes. Edge's frustration then was shown, as he crotched Jericho on the top rope and was disqualified. Edge Speared Jericho after the match, then left with his title.

A major feud with Jericho seemed to be in the works, with a match planned between Edge and Jericho at Unforgiven '04. But, during a house show at the end of August '04, Edge had a groin injury, taking him out of action. On the next Raw, he came out on crutches during one of Jericho's Highlight Reels, announcing that he was too hurt to compete. Edge and Jericho actually shook hands, and Edge left, only to see Christian attack Jericho from behind in the ring. Edge looked shocked, but didn't go back, instead leaving to the backstage area. It was later announced by GM Eric Bischoff that Edge's Intercontinental Title had been stripped due to injury, as Edge was once again on the shelf for a time.

When Edge returned a few weeks later, it was announced that he was one of the possible contenders for a World Title shot against Hunter Hearst Helmsley, along with Chris Benoit and Shawn Michaels. The match would take place at a PPV, Taboo Tuesday, with the #1 Contender decided by the fans. Edge seemed to have more of a cocky attitude as he returned, openly touting his new autobiography and saying that, since he had so many fewer shots at the title, he deserved the chance more than Benoit or Michaels. It was also announced that the 2 runner-ups for the voting would get a Tag-Team Title match against La Resistance. The three wrestlers faced off in a "Three-Way" Match on the Raw before the pay-per-view, with Edge getting the cheap win by rolling Benoit up and holding the tights.

At Taboo Tuesday, the 3 contenders were shown in the backstage area, telling their views on why they should get the shot. To Edge's surprise and dismay, the voters went for Shawn Michaels. This left Edge & Benoit, two bitter rivals, going into the tag-team title match with La Resistance. The two let out their feelings on the champs, aggressively attacking to start things out. But Edge's annoyance with the fans led to him being distracted, even with Benoit telling him to keep his head in the game. This kept the team from working as well as they could be. Later on, after Benoit had been double-teamed for some time, he tried to make the tag to Edge. The ref didn't see it, and, thus, didn't allow it. This caused Edge to leave the apron and walk to the back, simply leaving the match! But Benoit didn't give up, blocking at attempt of the Au Revior and instead taking out Conway with several suplexes. He knocked Grenier out of the ring, then put the Crossface on Conway, forcing him to tap and winning the match without Edge's help. Thus, Edge became the co-Raw Tag-Team Champion with Benoit, with little effort on his part.

On the next Raw, Edge refused to show up, saying that the fans didn't deserve to see him in person. Edge expressed his anger towards Benoit, even though the two were tag-team champions. On the next Raw, Eric Bischoff announced that there would be an "Elimination" Match at Survivor Series '04, with Edge teaming up with Hunter Hearst Helmlsey, Batista, and Gene Snitsky, to take on Benoit, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, & Maven. The winning team would get the power to run Raw for a month, as Eric Bischoff had decided to take a much-needed vacation.

On the same night, Edge & Benoit had a Tag-Team Title defense against La Resistance. Edge got his tag-team title from Benoit earlier in the night, saying that if Benoit could win single-handed, then with Edge there, it would be a squash. At first, though, Edge wasn't there, keeping it a Handicap Match for Benoit. Finally, Edge walked down to the ring, apparently willing to tag in. But when Benoit made a move for the tag, Edge dropped from the ring apron and instead went to talk with the announcers. Benoit tried to win on his own, getting in some good shots, but when Edge decided to distract the referee, La Resistance double-teamed Benoit and took him out, taking back the Raw Tag Titles. Afterwards, Edge entered the ring and used one of the belts on Benoit, bloodying him, then got both a Spear and a "Crossface" on the beaten wrestler.

Edge's pairing with Triple H and company seemed doomed for failure right from the outset, as only Triple H & Batista had any unity. Edge personally stated for Triple H that, if their team won the match, Edge would use his week in power to get a World Title shot against Helmlsey. Edge and Benoit faced off in the main event of the Raw before the Survivor Series, with Benoit vowing revenge for the beating that he had gotten. The two men beat on each other for a while. During the match, Triple H & Batista came out to ringside to watch Edge, while Orton, Jericho, & Maven came out for Benoit. Eventually, Benoit took charge, bloodying Edge and getting him in the Crossface. Triple H then started to come in, but Jericho stopped him, and a riot broke out between the two teams, causing the referee to call for the bell. During the brawl, Snitsky came down and attacked Benoit. At one point, the heels cleared the ring, but then got in each other's faces, showing no team unity. The fan favorites then reentered and attacked, getting rid of Edge's team and standing as a unit.

The '04 Survivor Series match started out with a lot of back-and-forth action, with no quick eliminations this year. At one point, Benoit seemed to be in control, catching both Triple H & Edge with his flying headbutt. But Snitsky broke up the cover. As the ref was distracted by Snitsky, Benoit got the Crossface on Edge, only to have Triple H get the Pedigree, allowing Edge to eliminate Benoit with a weak cover. Dissention then began to brew between Edge's team, giving the faces the advantage despite their decreased numbers. Batista was eliminated after Orton hit him from the outside with the World Title. Maven then returned to the face team (having been injured earlier in the night), only to have Snitsky ko him with a chair, causing Snitsky to be DQ'ed. But Triple H covered Maven, quickly eliminating him as well. Later on, Edge managed to get Jericho with the Spear, pinning him. But Edge & Triple H couldn't do enough double-teaming on Orton, as Edge accidentally Speared Helmsley. Orton then got the RKO on Edge and pinned him, then later used the same maneuver on Triple H to win the match, costing Edge another title shot.

On the next Raw, Maven was in charge for the week. As the General Manager, Maven made a match pitting Benoit & Shelton Benjamin against Edge & Christian, reuniting a tag-team that didn't want to be reunited. The arguing between Edge & Christian made things easier for Benoit & Benjamin, who worked well as a unit. Tyson Tomko was also at ringside, though, becoming a factor in the match. In the end, Edge went for the Spear on Benoit, but got Tomko instead, taking him out of action. Benoit then took Edge out, even as Benjamin beat down Christian. Benjamin got a splash on Christian, followed by a Benoit flying headbutt and the Crippler Crossface, forcing Christian to tap out. After the match, an angry Edge entered the ring and beat down his 'brother', announcing to the world that he wants to stay a singles competitor.

Edge caused more problems with his temper on the next Raw, which Benoit was in charge of for the week. Edge thought he deserved the World Title shot, instead of Benoit (who, of course, granted it to himself). In the main event, Benoit was supposed to face Triple H for the World Title. But when Batista apparently turned on Helmsley and beat him down (which was all a ruse by Evolution), Edge took Triple H's place, and fought Benoit in a "Steel Cage" Match. Both men showed their violent sides in this match, with a lot of blood flowing from cuts on their heads. In the end, it was Edge's inner rage that proved his undoing. As Benoit worked his way up near the side of the cage, Edge charged, getting the Spear. Unfortunately, the Spear just happened to knock Benoit headfirst out of the cage, giving Benoit the win, and causing a fit of rage from Edge.

The next week, GM Randy Orton made a 20-man "#1 Contenders Battle Royal" match to lead off Raw. One by one, the wrestlers were eliminated. After 15 minutes of action, Edge Speared Shelton Benjamin out to make it to the final four along with Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, and Batista. After Batista eliminated Jericho, he went after Benoit, trying to powerbomb him. Benoit tried to fight it off, then was 'saved' when Edge dropkicked Batista, sending both over the ropes. Benoit hung on, while Batista was eliminated. Edge and Benoit then fought hard along the ropes, with both going out at the same time! The ruling was made by Orton later on that the main event would be a Triple Threat Match between the champ, Triple H, Benoit, and Edge!

The 3 men went at it hard, with Edge & Helmsley double-teamming Benoit at first. This soon faded, though, as Edge wanted the title as well. Benoit nearly won the match with the Crippler Crossface, only to have Batista & Ric Flair come to the ring and break it up, pulling Benoit out and attacking him. Orton sent Batista & Flair to the back, though, keeping the match even. In the end, Helmsley was taken out after he tried to use a chair, being clocked by it instead by Orton. Benoit then put Edge in the Crossface, only to have Edge roll Benoit backwards for a pin attempt. The 3 count came almost exactly with Edge tapping out, leaving the finish of the match a mystery until the next week.

It was later announced by Vince McMahon that the Raw World Title had been vacated. This only further convinced Edge that he was being screwed out of the title, making him angrier and angrier. Bischoff followed up the next week in his return by stating that Edge, Helmsley, Benoit, Chris Jericho, Randy Orton, and Batista would fight it out for the World Title at the next PPV in an Elimination Chamber Match! To end the year, Bischoff set up a series of matches on Raw for the six combatants, stating that the person who won his match the quickest would gain the coveted final entry in the Chamber. Edge was pitted against Eugene, who frustrated Edge with various antics, including hiding under the ring. Edge still nearly won in time, but his Spear to Eugene sent his foe out of the ring, allowing the clock to run out. Furious, Edge beat on Eugene, eventually pinning him to win the match. Batista went on to win the final spot. At the end of the night, it was also announced by Bischoff that Shawn Michaels would be the special referee of the Chamber Match, which only infuriated Edge more.

On the final Raw before the pay-per-view, Bischoff arranged three matches between the six combatants. Edge was pitted against Chris Jericho, with the two men having a very back-and-forth match. It ended in an abrupt way, as Edge managed to reverse a victory roll and held the ropes, getting the cheap pin victory. This wasn't enough for Edge, though, who confronted Bischoff during the night about Michaels being appointed the referee. Edge believed that Michaels would not treat him fairly, since Edge had put Michaels on the shelf. At New Years Revolution, Edge tried a new tactic, telling Bischoff to allow his brother, Christian, to wrestle in his place, while he would get a title shot later on. Bischoff turned down his request, even though Edge thought for sure that Michaels would screw him over yet again.

Later on in the night, the Elimination Chamber took place, with the vacated gold on the line. Benoit and Jericho started out the match, with the rest locked in the chambers. The two fought hard on each other, doing a lot of damage, before Triple H came in third. Helmsley had the advantage at first, but Benoit & Jericho started working together against him, with all three men bleeding from various wounds. Edge came in next, and attacked everybody, including an Edgecution on Triple H that nearly eliminated him. Orton was next, and the five wrestlers brawled, still with no eliminations. Finally, during the melee, Edge accidentally Shawn Michaels, who later came back with some Sweet Chin Music. Jericho then got the Lionsault on Edge and pinned him, taking him out of the match. Just as he had predicted, Michaels turned out to be Edge's downfall. Hunter Hearst Helmsley went on to win the match, gaining back the WWE Raw World Title.

Edge was granted a Royal Rumble Qualifying Match on the next Raw, facing off against Rhyno. While Edge's obvious rage almost went out of control on occassion, he managed to reel it in long enough to Spear Rhyno, then force him to tap out to Edge's new submission hold. Edge then refused to leave the ring, demanding that Shawn Michaels come out to face him. After some time, Michaels finally came out and talked to Edge, telling him that he needed to stop complaining, go to the Rumble and win it, then take it all the way to Wrestlemania. Edge seemed to consider his words, saying that maybe he did need to slap some sense into himself, but liked the idea of slapping Michaels better! The two wrestlers then brawled all the way to the back and beyond, with countless referees and backstage individuals trying to separate them. Edge would come out during Michaels' match with Christian a week later, and tried to interfere, only to have Michaels counter it, then get the win. But Edge wasn't done, Spearing a distracted Michaels, then locking him into the submission hold, yelling at him the whole time. Edge later teamed with Christian & Tomko against Michaels, Chris Benoit, & Chris Jericho, with Edge and Michaels always looking for the other. Benoit won the match for his team.

At the '05 Royal Rumble, Edge and Michaels faced off. Michaels took control early, by clotheslining both men out of the ring, but pulling himself back in. Edge quickly came back, though, and the two exchanged several maneuvers, with the momentum continuously switching. At one point, Edge 'tuned up the band', pantomiming HBK, then caught Michaels with the Spear for a close 2 count. A frustrated Edge pulled on his hair, then let Michaels get back into it. But Michaels missed the Sweet Chin Music, as Edge caught him with an Electric Chair Drop for another close count. Edge then got the Edgeucation submission hold locked in. When Michaels managed to get to the ropes, Edge pulled him back towards the center of the ring, only to have Michaels roll him up for a 2 count. The two then each tried a reverse roll-up, with Edge winning out by grabbing the ropes and getting the pin, winning the match over his hated rival.

The night wasn't over for Edge, though, as he still was scheduled to compete in the Royal Rumble main event. Edge got a bad draw in the match, coming in at #7. He started off quickly, though, with a Spear to Eddie Guerrero. Edge then worked to hang around, even joining with his fellow Raw wrestlers in a 4-on-4 brawl with Smackdown stars. This was broken up when Muhammad Hassan came down, as Edge joined with everyone else to beat down the heel and throw him out. Edge later eliminated Shelton Benjamin, Eddie Guerrero, and Ric Flair to make it to the Final Four, along with Rey Mysterio, John Cena, & Batista. Edge, despite being the longest-running entry left, was the strongest for a while, as he Speared Batista, then, after missing a Spear on Mysterio, dodged a Mysterio maneuver and threw him out. Mysterio managed to stay on the apron, but Edge got the Spear again, eliminating Mysterio. As Edge gloated, however, Cena caught him unawares, and was able to toss him out. Batista later went on to win the Rumble, as Edge again had a title shot slip through his fingers.

Twenty-four hours later on Raw, Edge surprisingly came out during Christy Hemme's shooting of t-shirts into the crowd. Edge was furious, saying that Hemme was mocking him by firing out Wrestlemania t-shirts, which Edge took as her pointing out that he had not won the main event spot by winning the Rumble. He threatened Christy, but Michaels then came out, allowing Hemme to leave. Michaels talked about how embarrassing his night was before, and said that he had some pent-up energy to use against Edge in a rematch. Edge refused, though, saying that he gained nothing by beating Michaels again. He told Michaels that he had to suck it up and shake Edge's hand, declaring him the better man. Michaels reluctantly did the hand-shake, but as Edge started to tell him to leave the ring, Michaels caught him with some Sweet Chin Music out of nowhere, knocking him out!

Raw came, for the first time, from Japan the next week, with Edge getting a Raw World Title shot against Hunter Hearst Helmsley. The crowd was hot for the match between the two heel wrestlers, as Edge's intensity at getting a title shot was incredible. Edge managed to fight off the interference of Ric Flair, spearing him at one point, but another Evolution member, Batista, proved to be a bit more troubling. When Batista came down to the ring, he was confronted by Edge. When Batista turned his back, Helmsley knocked Edge off the apron, sending him into Batista. Later on, Edge seemed to have the advantage, setting up Helmsley for the Spear. But an angry Batista entered the ring and caught Edge with a massive Spinebuster, severely weakening him and leaving him open for the Pedigree. Once again, Edge had been cheated out of the World Title.

Edge demanded a shot against Batista on the next Raw, and was granted his wish. Evolution's Animal dominated at first, as Edge couldn't match his strength. But Edge used other weapons in his arsenal, including getting an Edge-o-matic on the outside to take control. The momentum switched back and forth for a while, with Edge nearly winning with an implant DDT. But Batista caught Edge's attempted Spear and got a Spinebuster, followed by the Batista Bomb. However, Triple H then entered the ring and took out the referee, causing the DQ victory for Edge! This was because a limosuine apparently carrying John Bradshaw Layfield (who was supposed to be gunning for Batista) had just shown up in the back. Although it couldn't have been what Edge wanted, a win is a win.

Edge re-teamed with his brother, Christian, on the next Raw, taking on Shawn Michaels & Randy Orton. Near the end, Edge & Christian seemed to have it all rolling, as they prepared for a nostalgic Conchairto on Michaels. But Michaels dodged, causing the two to smack their chairs together. Edge was then tackled out of the ring by Orton, while Christian got ko'ed by Michaels' Sweet Chin Music, allowing Michaels to get the pin and win the match. An insanely furious Edge watched from outside the ring as Michaels celebrated. In the back, Michaels was just starting to be interviewed when Edge attacked, brutally beating down the legend. This led to a "Street Fight" being signed between the two, which turned into a bloody brawl when Edge deeply cut open Michaels with an implant DDT onto a chair. The two wrestlers continued to use every weapon available to them, including ladders and kendo sticks. In the end, Edge looked to end it with a Spear, nailing Michaels. But HBK kicked out at 2, causing Edge to pull out more hair in disbelief. Edge then went to the corner and started 'tuning up the band', mocking Michaels. But he missed his second-attempted Spear, with Michaels knocking out Edge with some Sweet Chin Music, winning the match.

It was during this time that Edge's heat with the fans began to change, as fans would start chanting "You screwed Matt!", refering to the rumors that Edge had had an affair with Lita, Matt Hardy's girlfriend at the time. On the first Raw of March '05, GM Eric Bischoff called Edge, Christian, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, and Shelton Benjamin into his office to announce a new match at Wrestlemania, called "Money In The Bank". It would be a ladder match, with the winner getting a World Title Shot contract that he could use in the next year. Edge faced off against Jericho that night, and used a nearby ladder to his advantage, hitting a low blow on Jericho, then pinning him for the win. The final opponent in the match was revealed later on, as Kane defeated Christian in a match. Edge faced off against Benjamin a week later, attacking Benjamin before the match to get the advantage. However, when the ref got knocked down, Jericho came to the ring and got some revenge, hitting Edge with a ladder. Benjamin then landed the T-Bone Suplex for the victory.

The next week, Edge & Christian reteamed to take on Jericho & Benjamin. Thanks to Christian hitting Benjamin with the IC Title, Edge got the pin, winning the match. The two men, along with Christian's ally, Tyson Tomko, beat the face wrestlers down after the match, with Benoit trying for the save (but getting ko'ed by Tomko as well). On the final Raw before the PPV, Benjamin and Benoit came out on Jericho's Highlight Reel show and talked about who was the hungriest for the World Title shot. They were quickly interrupted by first Christian & Tomko, and then Edge, leading to a brawl that set up a 6-man Tag-Team Match. Both teams had some communications problems, as the various wrestlers were all preparing for the PPV. In the end, Edge's team lost, as Benjamin scored the T-Bone on Tomko, allowing Jericho to apply the Walls of Jericho to make Tomko submit. After the match, Kane came down and took out everyone, showcasing his power.

The "Money In The Bank Ladder" Match at Wrestlemania 21 really was an incredible sight, as all six men put their bodies on the line for a chance to win the WWE World Title shot. Kane definitely had the psychological edge going in, as he lit the ladders on the stage on fire during his entrance. The match saw way too many incredible spots to list here, as it was a thrilling match. At one point, Edge suffered a massive T-Bone Suplex from Benjamin off the top of a ladder, taking both men out. Later on, Benoit managed to subdue Kane, then started climbing the ladder, only to have Edge smash Benoit's arm with a steel chair, injuring him. Edge then scaled the ladder and grabbed the briefcase, winning the guaranteed World Title Shot contract and earning himself a new nickname for much of the next year: "Mr. Money In The Bank".

Edge celebrated his victory the next night, telling GM Bischoff that he would decide when to cash in his title shot. Bischoff then stuck Edge in a match against the injured Benoit, who, despite his arm injury, rolled Edge up for a victory after a long match. A furious Edge lost it, grabbing a chair and smashing Benoit with it, trying to do more damage to Benoit's arm. A week later, Benoit faced off against Christian, with Edge watching from the announce table. Late in the match, Edge worked to get involved, joining Tomko in distracting Benoit. Once Benoit got rid of both men, he got caught by Christian's Unprettier and pinned, with Edge laughing from the outside. Edge and Benoit fought again the next week, but but the rage the two felt for the other couldn't be contained, as they fought into the crowd and backstage, ending the match in a No-Contest. GM Bischoff, who showed up when they were finally being separated, declared that the two men would face off at the next PPV in a Last Man Standing Match.

Edge and Benoit got their chance to brawl at Backlash '05. The Last Man Standing Match started off inside the ring, with Edge trying to keep up with Benoit's technical maneuvers. After some exchanges of moves, weapons began coming into play, including the ringside railing, trash cans, and ladders. Benoit got some momentum by using the Sharpshooter on Edge, who eventually got to the ropes. But Edge later caught Benoit in the midst of a suicide dive with a trash can lid, taking the advantage. Edge then superplexed Benoit onto a trash can, with Benoit barely beating the count by rising at 9. Benoit made a comeback later on by German Suplexing Edge off the top of a ladder, and nearly won with the Crossface, knocking Edge out for a 9 count. But Edge got a DDT onto his briefcase, then got multiple Spears. Benoit wouldn't stay down, though, causing a crazed Edge to pull a brick from his briefcase and smash Benoit in the back of the head with it, finally knocking the Crippler out cold long enough for Edge to get the victory.

Twenty-four hours on Raw, GM Bischoff announced that a Gold Rush Tournament was going to be held, with a World Title shot against Batista on the line. Edge entered into the tournament, despite the fact that he already had a guaranteed shot. Edge wanted another. That night, Edge defeated Chris Jericho, thanks to using his briefcase to knock Jericho out. In the semi-finals the next week, Edge faced off against old nemesis Shawn Michaels, in another exciting match. Once again, though, Edge used his briefcase when the ref was down, again moving on through deceitful tactics. This put Edge against Kane in the finals of the tournament, with Kane looking to have the advantage by having Lita, his wife, in his corner. However, in a story that mirrored reality, Lita betrayed Kane, slipping Edge's briefcase to him to help Edge knock out Kane and score the pin, winning a 2nd title shot! Edge kissed Lita after the match, to the heavy boos of the crowd, who were still chanting "You screwed Matt!"

Edge & Lita gloated about their actions on the next Raw, with Lita claiming that she had been seeing Edge for months, behind her husband Kane's back. That night, Edge took on Batista for his World Championship. Edge had help in the form of Christian & Tomko, who wanted Edge's "Money In The Bank" Contract (which he wouldn't need if he won the gold that night). All 3 men attacked Batista after the ref went down, but Ric Flair came down to even things up, taking out Christian & Tomko. Edge Speared Flair, but then later fell to a Batista Bomb, losing one of his shots at the gold. Edge & Lita continued having a feud with Kane on the next Raw, with Lita flushing her wedding ring down the toilet. Edge was also announced as GM Bischoff's first 'soldier' in his war against the ECW reformation. Edge faced ECW-follower Benoit later that night in a "Tables" Match, with Edge having help from Gene Snitsky, Tyson Tomko, & Maven, all Bischoff allies. The wrestlers worked together to put Benoit through a table, getting Edge the win. The war between the factions later took place on ECW One Night Stand, as Edge led the Raw group into the stands, then later in the brawl against the ECW wrestlers (won by ECW).

Edge & Lita also kept taunting Kane for the next few weeks, continuing to add to his distress. On the June 20th, '05 Raw, Edge & Lita opted to have a wedding ceremony in the middle of the ring. They turned part of it into a joke, playing Matt Hardy's music at one point (Hardy had been released by WWE). Gene Snitsky also read a poem for the couple. As the preacher was finishing the vows, though, Kane suddenly popped up through the ring, sending Edge & Lita running away! Kane Tombstoned the preacher, as Edge & Lita watched from the ramp. At Vengeance '05, Edge and Kane faced off in a Grudge Match, with Lita at ringside to help her man as much as she could. Edge also had the help of Snitsky, but this didn't last, as Edge accidentally hit Snitsky with the briefcase, knocking him out! Kane then caught Edge with a Chokeslam, hammering him into the mat and getting the pin for the victory.

Twenty-four hours later on Raw, Edge & Snitsky were supposed to face Kane & a Raw draftee (from Smackdown) in a tag match. But Kane attacked before the bell, chasing Edge & Lita to the back (while Snitsky faced the Big Show in a singles bout). Edge & Lita tried to escape, with Edge sending Lita into their locker room to get her things. But Kane found Lita there, choking her, then finally leaving her in there. Edge and Kane were set to face off in the main event on the next Raw. Surprising developments happened during the night, though, as Edge was attacked in the back by none other than Matt Hardy! Hardy was driven away by road agents, as Edge headed out to the ring to face Kane. The match ended in a DQ, when Snitsky attacked Kane. As the brawl continued, Hardy reappeared, again going after Edge, until WWE security pulled Matt (who was supposedly not under contract with WWE at the time) away, trying to arrest him.

A "Steel Cage" Match was arranged the next week between Edge and Kane, to keep their respective attackers away from the match. Edge made some comments about Hardy before the match, bashing him and his Internet fans. Before Edge could get into the cage, though, he was again attacked by Hardy, leading to a short brawl that was broken up by security, with Hardy escaping into the crowd. Edge and Kane then went at it in the steel, with Lita watching from the outside. It was a hard-hitting match, with Edge interested in escaping with the win. Near the end, he managed just that, hitting Kane with the briefcase on the top of the cage to knock him back inside, then climbing over, getting the win. A week later, Edge and Kane faced off again, this time in a "Stretcher" Match. Edge again got the victory, thanks to Lita, who helped him stretcher Kane over the line for the win. Afterwards, though, Edge was again ambushed by Hardy, even as a recovered Kane grabbed Lita and Chokeslammed her on the steel, injuring her. Afterwards, Lita was taken to an ambulance, but Kane showed up again, taking out the medical staff and driving off with Lita in the back.

It was announced on the next Raw by Vince McMahon that he had re-signed Matt Hardy to WWE. Hardy talked about how Edge had screwed up his 6-year relationship with Lita (a true-life event), and that the fans had brought Matt back to WWE. Hardy had his first match back the next week against Snitsky, getting the win, but Edge quickly attacked him afterwards, leading to a wild brawl between the two foes. Edge and Hardy faced off at Summerslam '05, with both men intent on injuring the other after so many brawls. Edge got in a series of shots as the match went on, cutting Hardy open by dropping him onto the ringpost. Edge was then in complete control, repeatedly hitting Hardy in the head, until the ref opted to stop the match, awarding the victory to Edge because of Hardy's excessive bleeding.

Edge watched a day later as a hurting Hardy was beaten by Rob Conway. Although Hardy was already in bad shape, Edge wanted to add to the abuse, coming down and slamming Hardy's head between the stairs and the post! The two met again the next week on Raw, in a violent "Street Fight" Match that started in the ring, but didn't stay there. Lita worked to help Edge, at one point actually hitting Hardy with the briefcase. Near the end, the two men fought to the stage, with Hardy almost Powerboming Lita before Edge made the save. Edge then tried to send Hardy off the stage into some electrical equipment, but Hardy reversed, then took BOTH men over the edge, causing a huge explosion! For minutes afterwards, the referees gingerly worked to free both men, with each being carried out from the arena. Edge wore a neckbrace on the next Raw and watched with Lita as Hardy was forced by GM Bischoff to wrestle injured against Snitsky. Thanks to Edge being a distraction, Snitsky got the win, then hit Hardy with a ring bell after the match. Due to various encounters, Edge & Snitksy teamed against Hardy & the Big Show on the next Raw, with Edge pinning Hardy after Lita interfered, giving Hardy a low blow. Edge had Lita add to the humilation afterwards, having Lita give Hardy the Twist of Fate (Hardy's finisher).

At Unforgiven '05, Edge met Hardy again, this time in a "Steel Cage" Match (set up by Bischoff to contain the liability after the plunge through the electrical equipment). It was a brutal mattch, with Lita entering the cage at one point to try to help out her man, only to get the Twist of Fate from Hardy! Edge used the distraction to come back, but couldn't put Hardy away. At the end, Hardy came off the top of the cage with a huge Flying Leg Drop, finally getting a victory over Edge. A furious Edge approached Bischoff the next day on Raw, wanting Hardy fired again for daring to put his hands on Lita. Bischoff, though, had another plan, letting Edge know that he and Hardy would be facing off in a "Loser Leaves Raw Ladder" Match in two weeks, with Edge's "Money In The Bank" Contract on the line as well! Edge teamed up with Kurt Angle, Gene Snitsky, & Chris Masters to take on Hardy, John Cena, Shawn Michaels, & the Big Show. Unfortunately for Edge, he was left alone in the ring at the end, getting pounded by all four wrestlers before finally getting pinned.

Edge did a final interview the next week, talking on top of a ladder about how he was the winner of the two, since he had Lita. Hardy then came down and tipped the ladder over, sending Edge for a rough fall. A week later, the two faced off at WWE Homecoming, the first Raw back on the USA Network. The Ladder Match was all that could be expected, as Edge and Hardy pulled out all the stops to save their Raw careers. In the end, Edge once again had Lita to thank, as she attacked Hardy with a kendo stick, then came back to shove Hardy's ladder over. She then held Hardy, tangled in the ropes, while Edge climbed up and got the briefcase, winning the match and sending his long-running rival off of Raw (he would soon appear on Smackdown). Later that night, a brawl broke out between Raw and Smackdown wrestlers, since Bischoff had shut down the Smackdown match that was supposed to take place. Edge was suspiciously not among the Raw stars in the brawl.

Edge came out on the next Raw during a confrontation with several other wrestlers, all of whom wanted to be the #1 Contender to John Cena's WWE Title. Edge quickly pointed out that, since he was the only one to have a guaranteed title shot, all other shots should be frozen. It didn't take long for Carlito to point out that Edge didn't help out Raw, showing that he didn't deserve a shot. Instead of fighting it out, Edge teamed with Kurt Angle & Carlito against Cena, Shawn Michaels, & the Big Show. In a surprising ending, Cena was rolled up by Angle and pinned, basically showing that Angle should be the #1 Contender. Edge, meanwhile, seemed content to have gotten a win, talking down towards Smackdown's John Bradshaw Layfield. This backfired on Edge on the next Raw, as he was fighting in a "#1 Contender Qualifying" Match against the Big Show, with the winner getting put on the ballot for the fans to vote them into a World Title Match at Taboo Tuesday. During the match, JBL's music suddenly played, distracting Edge. This allowed the Big Show to get the win, costing Edge his shot.

Edge vowed to be on the next Smackdown to face down JBL, who later denied that he had played the music. On SD!, JBL faced off against Rey Mysterio. Edge's music played during the match, distracting JBL. But when Edge came in from the other side, he surprisingly Speared Mysterio, taking him out! Edge then ran from JBL, who gave chase. Meanwhile, another Raw superstar, Chris Masters, entered and put the Masterlock on Mysterio, adding to the damage, until the Smackdown locker room could chase him away. JBL showed up in his limo at the next Raw, with Edge, Lita, & Masters taunting him from the ring (since security wouldn't let him into the building). JBL was able to taunt Masters enough, though, to get him to come outside. It was all a trick, as Mysterio then came out of the crowd and attacked Edge & Lita, even giving Lita the 619! It was later announced that Edge had suffered a partial pectoral tear, causing him to have to take off some time from wrestling house shows and the like to heal up. Edge continued to show on WWE television, however.

A match was soon set up for the next PPV, pitting Edge & Masters against two Smackdown stars, which would be voted on by the fans. The choices were JBL, Mysterio, Hardy, Hardcore Holly, and Christian. On the Raw before the PPV, Edge & Masters ran down each opponent, making fun of all of them. However, Mysterio & SD GM Teddy Long then came out, with Mysterio hitting Masters with the mic! Another wild brawl broke out between Raw and Smackdown wrestlers, with Smackdown coming out ahead, much to the displeasure of Raw GM Bischoff. At Taboo Tuesday '05, it was announced that Mysterio & Hardy were voted in to face Edge & Masters. But Edge had a surprise for the Smackdown wrestlers, saying that he had nothing to prove wrestling either man, especially Hardy. He bashed Raw, then had Gene Snitsky take his place. Snitsky & Masters, though, fell to Mysterio & Hardy, making Raw look bad.

On the next Raw, Bischoff had all of the Raw wrestlers come out to the ring, and specifically called out Edge & Lita for Edge's comments about Raw. He announced that he had talked to SD GM Teddy Long, and Edge would be facing Smackdown wrestler Batista in a "Street Fight" Match on Smackdown! Edge seemed worried on the next show, trying to convince Batista that he didn't want to fight him. But the match appeared to be on, at least until Bischoff & Masters attacked Long in the back, drawing away the rest of the Team Smackdown team! This left Batista on his own, as Edge called out Kane & the Big Show, who ultimately destroyed Batista, giving him a Double Chokeslam! Edge earned Bischoff's respect, having set up the World Champion. Edge then took a few weeks off, supporting Raw but also resting his injury.

At the '05 Survivor Series, Edge hosted a talk show, calling it the Cutting Edge. He interviewed Detroit Tigers baseball player Dmitri Young, making fun of his weight and talking about steroids in baseball, insulting the Detroit fans in the process. Young got in a shot of his own, though, pointing out that Detroit had several World Titles, while Edge had never held one. Edge & Lita then left, furious at what had gone down. On the next Raw, the big story was that "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair was in trouble with the law, due to a road rage incident. Flair was expected to be the guest on the Cutting Edge, but Edge & Lita revealed that Flair had backed out due to 'legal advice'. Edge made fun of Flair instead, insulting the legend, which brought out former wrestlers Sgt. Slaughter and Michael "PS" Hayes (who worked as road agents for WWE). Edge bashed both men, including bringing up Hayes' former partner, Terry Gordy, saying that he couldn't be there for Hayes, since he was dead. Hayes yelled back at Edge, talking about how he was only big right now because he was with Matt Hardy's ex-girlfriend. It ended up in a brawl, with Edge laying out both Hayes and Slaughter before leaving.

Edge & Lita made fun of Flair again the next week, after Flair lost a "Qualifying" Match to Kurt Angle, saying that Flair could only win fights out on the highway. On the last Raw of '05, Edge & Lita again came out to the ring, with Edge claiming that he finally had Flair to give his explanation of what had occurred in the road rage incident. It was a trick, though, as a picture of Flair (with someone talking through his lips) was shown on the screen. Edge asked several questions of "Flair", making fun of his career. But this was finally too much for the legend, as the real Flair came out and charged the ring, attacking Edge. Lita got involved just long enough to get Edge out of the ring, with the two retreating from the rage of the Nature Boy.

On the first Raw of the new year, Edge had another video for Flair, dressing up as the Nature Boy and doing a "live video" of the road rage incident. Flair again came out to put a stop to Edge's fun, attacking Edge and going for the Figure Four. When Lita interfered again (and Edge escaped), Flair opted to put the Figure Four on Lita as well, torturing her until Edge reluctantly came back to pull her out. At New Year's Revolution '06, Edge challenged Flair for the Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship. Once again, Lita became involved, and once again, Flair put her in the Figure Four. But Edge then attacked with his briefcase, bloodying Flair while causing the DQ. Edge didn't seem worried about the loss, though, as he had a master plan for the night. Later on, the WWE Champion John Cena managed to retain his belt in a "Six Man Elimination Chamber" Match. Afterwards, though, a bloody Cena was shocked when Vince McMahon walked out and announced that Edge was cashing in his title shot! Edge easily dominated the already-beaten Cena, landing two Spears and pinning him. Finally, Edge was the WWE Raw World Heavyweight Champion!

Edge, now calling himself the "Rated R Superstar", planned a "Live Sex" Celebration with Lita on the next Raw, with Mr. McMahon getting Cena to promise not to interfere with it. However, just as the action was getting hot in the ring, Flair came down, fighting with Edge. Edge turned things around on the legend, though, getting a One-Man Conchairto on him! Cena then appeared, chasing Edge away from the ring, and leaving a mostly naked Lita under the sheets in the ring. Cena then grabbed Lita, who was trying to hide in the bed, and pulled her out, taunting Edge to come back to the ring. When he refused, Cena FU'ed Lita, laying her out! Edge got some revenge the next week, as he attacked Cena with his title during Cena's time in Chris Masters' Masterlock Challenge. Edge then faced Flair that night, with the title on the line, in a "TLC" Match! It was a brutal affair, with Edge sacrificing his body with a dive off the turnbuckle, landing on top of Flair and putting him through the announce table. Later on, though, Flair sent Edge spilling from the ring and through another table. Lita saved the match for Edge, stalling Flair (and getting the Figure Four), allowing Edge to come back in and punch Flair off the ladder, before climbing up and getting the gold, retaining the belt. Afterwards, Edge went for another One-Man Con-Chair-To on the legend, with Cena making the save by sending Edge & Lita from the ring.

A week later on Raw, Edge and Cena were set to face off in a tag match, with each needing to choose a partner. As the night began, Edge & Lita came out, showing a video montage about Edge's climb to the top. Cena then interrupted, telling a great story about the actual 'movie' behind the 'trailer', and how it ended with Edge losing the "ho" (Lita) to "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan! Later that night, Edge (after trying to get the Big Show and Triple H) got Chris Masters, while Cena surprisingly brought in home-town favorite Flair (who was thought to have been too injured to compete). With Flair's help, Cena got the victory, forcing Masters to tap out to the STFU. At the '06 Royal Rumble, Edge had to face a 100% Cena in a rematch. Edge was determined not to be a transitional champion, and had Lita doing everything she could to help out her man. At times, she distracted the referee and grabbed at Cena, breaking up his momentum. In the end, though, Lita got accidentally nailed by Edge when Cena dodged an attack, allowing Cena to quickly grab Edge and deliver the FU, taking away Edge's gold!

A furious Edge used his "Rematch" clause on the next Raw, saying that he would not be remembered as a 'transitional champion'. He was almost desperate to get the belt back, fighting Cena with all he had. Near the end, with the referee down, Edge got the advantage and called for Lita to bring in the championship belt. But Edge then got caught by Cena, who lifted him up for the FU. Lita came into the ring, with the ref getting up, and surprisingly rushed and hit Edge with the World Title, ending the match as a DQ loss for Cena! Both Cena and Edge looked shocked at the ending, with the announcers in complete confusion about what had happened. On the next Raw, though, Edge & Lita explained what happened, saying that, since Edge had technically won the match, he deserved another crack at the gold. Edge then had a confrontation with "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, followed by him preparing to spear Maria. But Cena broke it up, again sending Edge & Lita from the ring.

Later that night, Edge & Lita were teamed up to take on Cena & Maria, with the winning team getting to choose the referee for the rematch between Edge and Cena the next week. Edge and Cena did most of the fighting in the match, although it seemed that Lita had a major advantage over the non-wrestling Maria. But in the end, after Lita had accidentally been Speared by Edge, Maria blind-tagged herself in and made the pin, getting the win for Cena. Cena quickly announced his choice for referee: Mick Foley! The match took place the next week, with Foley promising to call things down the middle. It was another back-and-forth match between the two competitors, with Foley proving to be a major factor after ejecting Lita from ringside (when Lita tried to remove a turnbuckle pad). Late in the match, with Foley down, Edge used the title to hit Cena, with Lita returning to throw Foley back in. However, Cena kicked out, then later caught Edge in a leap from the turnbuckle to get the FU, retaining the title. A furious Edge blamed Foley, attacking after the match.

Edge & Lita called out Foley on the next week, wanting a match against him at Wrestlemania. Edge told Foley that, if Foley didn't come to the next Raw to answer him, Edge would be flying to Long Island to face Foley at his home. Edge faced another legend, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, that night, in another grudge match. Surprisingly, Duggan had Edge on the ropes late in the match, preparing for his 5-Point Stance. But Lita grabbed his leg, distracting him and allowing Edge to get the Spear for the victory. The next week, Edge & Lita came out complete with plane tickets, expecting to go to Foley's home. But Foley did show up, at first answering the question as "No", not wanting to wrestle Edge at the PPV. But after trading insults back and forth about transitional champions (with Foley calling himself the "greatest" transitional champion ever, since he held the belt 3 times), Foley told Edge that, instead of a wrestling match, he wanted Edge in a "Hardcore" Match! Foley then gave Edge a little incentive about his decision, bringing out a barbed wire baseball bat! Edge & Lita escaped through the crowd, while Foley stood tall in the ring.

On the next Raw, Edge watched as Lita defeated Maria in a women's match. Edge wasn't satisfied, though, as he wanted to hit the Spear on Maria. Foley broke it up, causing a brawl between the two men. But with Lita there, distracting Foley by jumping on his back, Edge won the fight, Spearing Foley. Edge then gave Foley a One-Man Con-Chair-To before telling Foley that he accepted Foley's Hardcore Match challenge. A week later, Edge ran a 'trailer' making fun of Foley's horrendous Wrestlemania record. Edge then defeated Goldust in a match, with Lita helping to distract Goldust from delivering his Shattered Dreams, which allowed Edge to get the Spear for the win. Afterwards, Edge felt like talking some more, running another 'trailer' that showed his own Wrestlemania record (undefeated at Wrestlemania). Edge also announced that he would be doing a special Cutting Edge at the return of WWE's Saturday Night show, with Foley as the guest. The show would be rated H for Hardcore.

At Saturday Night's Main Event #32, the Cutting Edge show was set up, complete with weaponry laid out around the ring. Edge then called out Foley, saying that he was now more of a cuddly teddy bear than a hardcore expert. Foley soon came out, causing a major brawl, with Edge dropping Foley face-first into a pile of tacks at one point! But Foley got up, smiling, as he chased Edge to the ramp, where he gave Edge a One-Man Con-Chair-To! Edge was left out cold, as the bloody Foley celebrated with the fans, showing that he was still Hardcore. Edge & Lita tried an old twist the next week, with Lita coming down to talk to Foley (who was talking like Cactus Jack), in order to distract him. Foley saw right through it, though, telling Lita to slap him, then turning as Edge tried to come in through the crowd. Foley also blocked Lita's low blow, putting her in the Mandible Claw! Edge, not willing to face Foley, could only watch as he tortured Lita right in front of him.

Foley 'apologized' for his assault on Lita the next Raw, while also offering her roses inside the ring. He also left Edge a present on the ramp. After the two exchanged insults, Edge opened the box, to find a baseball bat! Edge called Foley an arrogant son of a bitch, then came to the ring, only to find that Foley had himself one better: a barbed-wire baseball bat! Edge ran for it, heading into the crowd, as Foley showed off his weapon. At Wrestlemania 22, Edge and Foley went at it in the "Hardcore" Match, with Edge bringing his "gift", the baseball bat, with him. The match was truly hardcore, as all sorts of weapons were used. At one point, Edge was backdropped on a pile of tacks, shredding his unprotected back. Both men were badly bloodied during the bout, with Lita even suffering a bloodied lip due to a barbed-wire Socko. In the end, though, with Lita's help, Edge was able to Spear Foley through a burning table, getting an incredible win to continue his Wrestlemania winning streak.

Cena came out on the next Raw to both boos and cheers from the crowd, feeling the heat of the audience in attendance. Cena was soon joined by Triple H, who talked about underestimating the champion and wanting another title shot. This, too, was interrupted, by Edge, who thought someone who had won at Wrestlemania should get the shot, namely himself. Cena tried to arrange a "#1 Contenders" Match between the two men, but Edge & Triple H joined forces, getting Cena to agree to a "Handicap" Match against them instead! Cena mostly fought against Edge during the match, as Triple H spent most of the match watching from a seat on the top turnbuckle. Triple H eventually got involved when it looked like Cena might take out Edge, but Triple H got taken out instead by an accidental Edge Spear! Cena then took Edge down, only to have Triple H viciously attack Edge as well! But when Cena went to give Edge the Five-Knuckle Shuffle, Triple H used the opportunity, booting Cena and giving him the Pedigree to pick up the victory. It was later announced on WWE.com that the next Raw PPV main event would be Cena vs. Triple H vs. Edge for the WWE Heavyweight Title.

Edge & Lita came out on the next Raw to brag about the 'win' over Cena, as well as to proclaim Edge as having the best chance of winning the WWE Title. Edge even said that he could beat either man. This brought out Cena, who threw insults back-and-forth with Edge & Lita, including Cena saying that, if he started to trash the fans, he'd become Edge, while if he let the cheers get to his head, he'd be Triple H. The Game also came out, getting involved. Triple H also told Edge that he had talked with "the old man" in the back and had arranged for another Handicap Match, this time pitting Cena & Triple H against Edge! While Edge didn't seem happy with the arrangement, Cena and Triple H didn't seem to get along either, as, when Triple H showed a handshake, Cena slapped him across the face and left the ring! In the match, Triple H and Cena barely got along, with Edge trying to take advantage. Near the end, though, Cena got the hot tag, taking it to Edge. When Triple H interfered, grabbing Edge and Pedigree'ing him (to try and steal the win), an angry Cena FU'ed his own tag partner, then put Edge in the STFU, forcing him to tap out!

It didn't take long the next week for the third "Handicap" Match to be signed, as Mr. McMahon, upset about Triple H calling him 'the old man', put his own son-in-law in the match against Cena & Edge. Triple H tried to swing things his way before the match, though, reminding Edge that Cena had betrayed his partner the week before. Edge & Cena didn't work well as a team, allowing Triple H to stay alive. When the ref went down, it worked fully to Triple H's advantage, as he retrieved his sledgehammer. He hammered Cena with his weapon, knocking him out. But Edge, who had been faking injury, then Speared Triple H, picking up a pinfall to 'even' the Handicap series between the three. It looked like things were going to start again the Raw before the PPV, with Triple H and Edge exchanging insults in the ring. Cena then came out, but didn't speak, instead just attacking Triple H, even as Edge & Lita left. Cena sent Triple H from the ring, and before the Game could return, the Spirit Squad came out, announcing that it would be the three wrestlers vs. their 5 in another "Handicap" Match that night! In the match, Edge, Cena, & Triple H had to work together, although their 'tags' were a little harder than normal. Near the end, with Edge & Lita opting just to leave, Cena grabbed one Spirit Squad member, while Triple H grabbed another, leading to a simultaneous FU/Pedigree combination! But no pin was made, as Cena and Triple H started going at it, with Edge & Lita laughing on the outside, as the show came to an end.

Edge, Cena, & Triple H met in their "Triple Threat" Match at Backlash '06, with Cena's World Title on the line. While Cena and Triple H went at it early on, Edge used his smarts, staying on the outside unless he needed to make a save. This soon backfired on Edge, though, as both Cena & Triple H decided to pull him into the ring and double-team him, trying to one-up each other by beating Edge into the ground. The match soon broke down into a true Three-Way bout, with several close calls. Late in the match, with Edge down on the outside (and the ref down), Lita tried to interfere, only to get Spinebustered by Triple H, who then got his favorite weapon, the sledgehammer, out from under the ring. However, Edge Speared Triple H, denying him his chance to use it. Edge then grabbed the sledge, but got nailed by Cena. Triple H then came back and tried to get the Pedigree, but Cena rolled up Triple H and got the quick pin. After the match, Triple H went berserk with the hammer, nailing Edge, Cena, and the referee, before walking out.

The next night, on the Cutting Edge, Edge, with Lita, talked about the fact that, since he wasn't the one pinned, he still had a claim to the title. Edge then brought out his guest, Mick Foley! Edge talked down to Foley, who hadn't appeared on Raw since his loss to Edge at Wrestlemania. Foley, though, thanked Edge for the match, even shaking his hand. He called Edge "tough", and that their Hardcore match was one of the best he'd been a part of. Foley also said that he'd gotten his coveted Wrestlemania moment, showing a clip that ended with Edge, after being burned by Spearing Foley through the table, wild-eyed. Foley said that he had changed Edge, and that Edge would never be the same. He also challenged Edge to a rematch. Edge denied Foley the match that night, since he was still hurting from the sledgehammer shot, among other things. But he said that he'd face Foley in any type of match he wanted the next week.

On the next Raw, Edge came out with Lita for the Hardcore Match. However, when Foley came out, he changed things up, saying that, since Edge had said "any" match, he was changing it to a "Three-Way Hardcore" Match and bringing in ECW's Tommy Dreamer! Things looked bad for Edge as Dreamer and Foley entered the ring. Shockingly, though, Foley turned on Dreamer, hitting him from behind with a barbed-wire baseball bat! Foley & Edge then teamed together, beating down Dreamer, with Foley putting Mr. Socko on Dreamer and, with Lita, holding him up so that Edge could hit the Spear! Edge, Lita, & Foley then celebrated together in a wild turn of events. A week later, Foley came out to explain himself, saying that, since he & Edge had had the greatest Hardcore match ever, he didn't want it tarnished by "2nd-rate ECW wrestlers" coming into WWE! Foley then brought out his mentor, Terry Funk, leading to a massive argument between the two, with Funk goading Foley into a brawl! With Funk in charge, Edge ran out, only to get knocked down by Funk as well. But Lita turned the tide, getting a low blow on Funk that allowed Edge & Foley to get their double-team moves in again, laying out the Funkster.

A week later, Edge & Lita came out after a speech from Foley, who wanted them in the ring. Foley, in a special surprise, tried to give Edge the old WWE Hardcore Championship belt, but Edge turned it down, saying that Foley deserved it more for having to suffer through stuff like ECW matches and Ric Flair insults (Flair called Foley a "glorified stuntman" in his book). After teasing a fight over the belt with Foley, Edge talked to Lillian Garcia, who was forced to announce that Edge & Foley were now co-champions! As the group celebrated, though, the ECW music hit, bringing out former ECW owner, Paul Heyman! Heyman taunted Foley about his change, saying that he wouldn't let him prostitute the name of Hardcore. Heyman also challenged Foley & Edge to a match at the upcoming ECW PPV against two former ECW wrestlers. While Foley turned it down at first, insults from Heyman towards Lita caused Edge to lose it, accepting his challenge! Edge & Foley then went after Heyman, but Heyman had back-up, revealing Edge & Foley's PPV opponents, Tommy Dreamer & Terry Funk! Dreamer & Funk beat back Edge & Foley, eventually sending them scrambling through the crowd (with Edge helping Lita) to escape.

Edge got a chance to shine the next Raw, as he was placed in a "#1 Contenders" Match against the Big Show to decide who had the title shot at the next WWE PPV (after ECW's show). Edge had some problems with the size of his foe, as the Big Show dominated early on. Near the end of the match, though, Edge got some help. As Edge distracted the ref, Lita entered the ring and gave the Big Show a low blow. It didn't quite faze the giant, as he went to take out Lita, but, as the ref went to get rid of the valet, Edge got a chair shot to his opponent's head, then landed the Spear, winning over the Big Show to earn another crack at the WWE Champion at the next WWE PPV.

Edge also stayed heavily involved in the war against ECW, as he participated in the "Team Battle Royal" at the WWE vs. ECW special. Edge proved to be a key factor for the 10-man WWE team, as he stayed on the outside for much of the match, grabbing ECW wrestlers from the outside and eliminating them. Edge finally entered the ring when it was a four-on-one situation, going after ECW's Kurt Angle. But Angle managed to catch Edge trying for a Spear on him, grabbing Edge and giving him a Suplex over the top rope, eliminating him! The Big Show (who jumped to ECW) later won the match, tossing out Randy Orton at the end. A few minutes later, Edge returned, this time for a "Hardcore" Match against ECW's Tommy Dreamer, with Terry Funk and Mick Foley fighting on the outside. During the match, Edge tried to set up Dreamer for a Powerslam through a table, only to take a sickening-looking Back Bodydrop that had Edge land short of the table, nearly landing on his head! Dreamer didn't stop, picking up the stunned Edge and delivering a Spicoli Driver through the table. Lita, though, broke up the 3 count, and as Dreamer, distracted, went to take her out, a recovered Edge landed a Spear, pinning Dreamer to get the win, as well as the momentum heading into the ECW PPV.
