History: "Ravishing" Rick Rude proved himself to be one of the greats of professional wrestling. He first wrestled in the Southern divisions of the AWA and the NWA, where he earned numerous titles (see below). Rude then went to the more visible NWA locations. In late 1985, he became the NWA American Heavyweight Champion by beating Iceman King Parsons. When the WCWA broke away from the NWA, Rude went with them and became the first WCWA Heavyweight Champion there. After losing the belt to Chris Adams, Rude went back to the NWA. In December 1986, he teamed with Manny Fernandez to win the NWA Tag-Team Titles from the Rock 'N' Roll Express. They held the belts until May of the next year, when the Express came back to take them. Not long after, Fernandez and Rude split up, and Rude came to the WWF.

As one of Bobby "The Brain" Heenan's "family", Rude made his presence known in the WWF. In April 1989, Rude won his only gold in the WWF, the WWF Intercontinental Title, by defeating the Ultimate Warrior. He and the Warrior had a huge feud, which included a "posedown" between the two, and eventually the Warrior won back the Intercontinental belt. A few months later, Rude left the WWF because of contract (and McMahon) problems, and came back to the NWA, which was slowly becoming WCW by this time.

Rude, with his coming to WCW, became the leader of the "Dangerous Alliance", a powerful group of wrestlers similar to the IV Horsemen. In November 1991, Rude managed to defeat Sting to win the NWA/WCW United States Title. He held the title for almost 2 years before being beaten by Dustin Rhodes (now known as Goldust). This did not trouble Rude too much, for barely a month later, September 1993, he defeated Ric Flair to win the "NWA World Title". During this time, the NWA and WCW finally went separate ways, and Rude's title became the WCW International World Heavyweight Title. In March '94, Rude lost the belt to Hiroshi Hase, but won it back just a few days later. By the next month, Rude lost the title to Sting. Then, in May 1994, Rude managed to win his next match with Sting. Unfortunately, during the match, Rude severely injured his back. The decision was later reversed, and Rude soon lost his contract with WCW.

Rude eventually brought a lawsuit against WCW, the results of which are unknown. For a brief period, Rude appeared in ECW, before heading back to the WWF to become one of the original members of "Degeneration X". He soon, however, returned to WCW as a member of the nWo, beside his long-term friend Curt Hennig. Rude managed Hennig throughout 1997-98, going with him no matter which group he was with. In late '98, Rude disappeared from sight, recuperating himself during Hennig's injury time. In '99, Rude appeared a few times, being a commentator for the WCW "Netcast" over the Internet. This would be the last thing in wrestling that Rude was involved in. On April 20th, 1999, Rick Rood passed away at the age of 40, after a heart attack. He died in his Georgia home. Rood set his mark on professional wrestling, and his "model" acting inspired many stars, like Shawn Michaels, Val Venis, and others. He will be missed.
