History: My history on Hugh Morrus is, unfortunately, very scarce right now. I know that Morrus wrestled some in both high school and college, using his bulk to secure himself victories on the mats. He then began training in Brooklyn, New York, with "Unpredictable" Johnny Rodz. Morrus first had success both overseas and in the States, wrestling some as "Sweet William" DeMott before going to W*ING in Japan, as Crash the Terminator, a painted-faced wrestler. In November '92, Crash joined with Mr. Pogo and won the W*ING Tag-Team Titles from the Head Hunters. The team would hold the belts for an impressive 4 months before being stripped when Mr. Pogo failed to show at an event. A few days later, Crash, with a new partner in Mitsuhiro Matsunaga, lost to Freddie Kruegar & Leatherface, who walked away with the belts. Crash continued to wrestle in W*ING, though, and earned the ultimate honor in July '93, defeating Dr. Wagner Jr, Yoshihiro Kanemura, & Goliath El Gigante to win the first W*ING World Heavyweight Title Tournament. Crash would stay the champion for over a month before being taken out by the Crypt Keeper. Not long afterwards, W*ING began falling apart, and thus Crash left the organization. DeMott did have a chance to join up with Extreme Championship Wrestling as their first World Champion, but instead opted to stay in Japan. He did, however, win the Pennsylvania Championship Wrestling Heavyweight Title at one point, before moving into the big time.

In September '95, Crash the Terminator signed with World Championship Wrestling, and even wrestled a dark match with them. But when it was decided to keep Sting as the only face-painted wrestler (not to mention "Crush" being in the WWF), "The Man of Question" Hugh Morrus was created. His wild laugh and crazy Moonsault for a man of his size quickly got him noticed, and he soon joined up with the Dungeon of Doom, along with Meng, Zodiac (Ed Leslie), Shark (John Tenta), and others under Kevin Sullivan. He was mainly featured in the background, though, while the Dungeon fought against Hulk Hogan, "Macho Man" Randy Savage, and other fan favorites. Morrus' first WCW pay-per-view appearance was at World War III '95, where 60 wrestlers competed in a 3-Ring Battle Royal for the WCW World Title. Morrus was tossed out early on, as Savage eventually won out in the end.

Morrus spent most of 1996 with very little storylines, mostly jobbing to more established wrestlers, while wrestling a few dark matches here and there with other young guys. He appeared in the WWIII Battle Royal, only to clear the ropes as one of the first to be eliminated. Morrus finally gained a little momentum going into 1997, when he joined the rest of the Dungeon of Doom against the threat of the nWo. At nWo Souled Out '97, Morrus wrestled against Big Bubba (Big Boss Man), who had turned on the Dungeon and aligned himself with the nWo. They battled in a Mexican Death match that quickly spiraled out of control, especially since Nick Patrick was the nWo referee. During the match, Morrus managed to knock out Bubba with a chain shot, but Patrick slowed down the 10 count enough to allow Bubba to recover. The two men then fought to the stage area, where Morrus tried his Moonsault off the entrance ramp, but missed. Bubba then got on a motorcycle and ran Morrus over, allowing him to win the match. Soon after, Bubba was mysteriously beaten and put in the hospital by an unknown assailant. Many assumed it was Morrus, although nothing was ever revealed about the attacker.

Morrus returned to jobber status for the next few months, wrestling and winning a dark match over Joe Gomez at Superbrawl VII. He would start to venture back into the public's eye when he began teaming with Konnan, forming a tough tag-team duo under the tutelage of Jimmy "Mouth of the South" Hart. However, when the two battled the Steiner Brothers at Slamboree '97, things fell apart, allowing the Steiners to win when Rick pinned Morrus. Afterwards, Morrus & Konnan began feuding, breaking up the team and leading up to the Great American Bash '97, where the two wrestlers fought it out. In the end, Konnan won out, forcing Morrus to submit. This killed Morrus' push, as he quickly fell back into obscurity, while Konnan continued to be showcased. Morrus' next claim to fame was actually a loss, since he was the first man defeated during Bill Goldberg's winning streak. Morrus' only other PPV appearence during 1997 was in the World War III 3-ring battle royal, where he was again quickly eliminated.

Morrus took off a portion of 1998 due to a series of injuries, and did not get a single push towards the big time during the year. He wrestled some as a member of Jimmy Hart's First Family, but rarely was featured in a major match for WCW. Injuries even kept the Laughing Man out of the WWIII Battle Royal, the first time he had missed it. Morrus finally started climbing back out of the 'black hole' of jobber-dom when he became a contender in WCW's Hardcore division, which was just starting to get off the ground. At Bash at the Beach '99, Morrus was put into the Junkyard Brawl, which was fought to see who would own the new WCW Hardcore Trophy. There were more than a dozen wrestlers involved in the event, including David Taylor, Steven Regal, Fit Finlay, Hardcore Hak (Sandman), La Parka, Mikey Whipwreck, Public Enemy, Horace (Hogan), Jerry Flynn, Brian Knobbs, and Silver King. The match was wild to say the least, with hardcore action occurring all over the junkyard. Many weapons were used. In the end, Finlay was the one able to escape the yard, winning the match and the Hardcore Trophy. Finlay & the members of the First Family (including Morrus) would feud for a while, until Finlay was badly injured after being slammed through a table by Knobbs.

Morrus next started teaming up with his ally in the First Family, Knobbs, as the stable began a feud with the Revolution (Shane Douglas, Dean Malenko, & Perry Saturn). The two mid-card groups fought it out for a number of weeks before Morrus & Knobbs were signed to face Douglas & Malenko at Fall Brawl '99 in a No Disqualification match. The fighting was furious, both inside and outside of the ring, as all four wrestlers took advantage of the No DQ stipulation. Morrus & Knobbs worked well as a team, surprising many people with their skills, including their opponents. At the end, Morrus came off the top turnbuckle with the No Laughing Matter, squashing Malenko and getting the upset victory. This gave Morrus & Knobs a push in the tag-team division, as they started to move towards the gold. The First Family started feuding with the Filthy Animals, leading Morrus back against his former foe, Konnan. A week before the PPV, Konnan & Rey Mysterio Jr defeated Harlem Heat (Booker T & Stevie Ray), winning the tag-team titles. However, Mysterio Jr was injured in the match, and thus the belts were vacated, setting up a 3-Way Tag-Team match at Halloween Havoc '99 between Morrus/Knobbs, Harlem Heat, and Konnan/Billy Kidman.

The Tag-Team match, wrestling under Street Fight rules, soon broke down, as the six wrestlers began fighting all over the building. At one point, Booker T chased Jimmy Hart up the aisle, only to be hit by a trash can lid by Knobbs. As Booker T and Knobbs fought to the back, Billy Kidman and Stevie Ray went at it in the aisleway. Meanwhile, Morrus paired off once again with Konnan, and in a great spot, hit the No Laughing Matter through a table on him. Both men were laid out by the hit. Kidman then went for the pin on Morrus, but in the backstage area, Booker T pinned Knobbs, getting the victory first to earn the tag-team titles. It was a hard defeat for the two members of the First Family, and soon afterwards, the group began to disperse, as Morrus' push evaporated once more. It was during this time that Morrus was suffering from multiple concussions that came up due to the various hardcore matches of WCW, which threatened to end his career prematurely.

In April '00, Eric Bischoff & Vince Russo came back to WCW and retook control, forming a stable of the more youthful wrestlers, the New Blood, to battle against the experienced veterans in the Millionaire's Club. Morrus was soon paired off with Chavo Guerrero Jr, Lash LeRoux, and Van Hammer as wrestlers unsure about where they stood. They battled for their jobs, with Morrus quickly becoming the leader of the group. After a match that Morrus cleanly won, however, the entire group was fired by Bischoff and kicked out of the building. A week later, the wrestlers appeared again, under new names, calling themselves the Misfits In Action (M-I-A). This led to Morrus getting a match-up against the United States Heavyweight Champion, Scott Steiner, at Starrcade '00. At the event, Morrus announced that he was now named "Hugh G. Rection", an interesting name to say the least. The fight was rough, with Rection mainly being dominated by Steiner. He managed to take control, though, late in the fight, and went for the No Laughing Matter. Unfortunately, Steiner moved, then locked on the Steiner Recliner, forcing Morrus to tap out. Postmatch, Steiner continued to hold the submission finisher, until Booker T came out to make the save.

Still, things were looking up for the wrestler formerly known as the Laughing Man. Captain Rection united his soldiers, now called Lt. Loco (Chavo), Cpl. Cajun (Lash), and Major Stash (Hammer), as well as a tough female valet in Major Gunns. They were also aided by Booker T, who, after being fired by Bischoff, returned as G.I. Bro, the leader for a time. Captain Rection's father also appeared a few times, in a strange gimmick that really didn't work, although he did get CPR from Major Gunns at one point. When G.I. Bro returned to his old name a few weeks later, he handed the mantle of leadership over to Rection, promoting him to General. Thus annointed, the General led his troops into battles with the New Blood, mainly focusing on the Filthy Animals, who dearly wanted to take the Cruiserweight Title from Lt. Loco. In successive PPVs, with the two stables battling on the outside, Loco managed to retain the belt in struggles against the Disco Inferno & Juventud Guerrera, as the General kept the other Animals from taking Loco down.

With Loco being successful, the General began looking towards himself, teaming up with Corporal Cajun in the tag-team division. They began battling against many other teams, fighting for a spot at the next Pay-Per-View. In a cage match, multiple teams went at it, with the final team left in the cage being the odd team out. Rection & Cajun survived, beating the Filthy Animals out and entering the 4-Way Tag-Team match with Kronik (the champions), Mark Jindark & Sean O'Haire, and the Perfect Event (Chuck Palumbo & "PerfectSean" Stasiak). However, the Commissioner, Ernest "The Cat" Miller, decided to make the Filthy Animals the special referees in the match, with the Disco Inferno being the main one in the ring. The match turned into a five-way brawl, which quickly became six when Vampiro & the Great Muta came to the ring to interfere. Near the end, Lt. Loco came out and took care of Disco, taking his referee shirt. However, he surprisingly made the count for Kronik, allowing them to keep the titles (for a short time, anyway). Rection was ok with the decision, though, thinking that Loco did the fair thing.

In September '00, General Rection began to go after Lance Storm, who had won the United States Heavyweight Title and renamed it the Canadian Heavyweight Title. This started a war between the M-I-A and Team Canada, as the two patriotic teams went at it again and again. At one show, Storm and his partners (Carl Oulette & Elix Skipper) kidnapped Major Gunns, intensifying the feud. Rection and the rest of the M-I-A attempted rescues, yet couldn't get Major Gunns away from Team Canada, who were teaching her to be a "good Canadian". At Fall Brawl '00, Rection signed to face Storm for the Canadian Heavyweight Title, with Major Gunns also on the line. To keep interference away from the ring, Rection enlisted patriot "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan to be at ringside as the special "troubleshooter". During the match, however, Duggan attacked Rection, hitting him with the 2x4. Storm was then able to take the victory, leaving with not only the title and Gunns, but also Duggan, as "Hacksaw" betrayed his long-time adoring fans and turned heel, becoming a Canadian.

The M-I-A's battles with Team Canada continued into the next month, with Duggan now on Team Canada's side. Rection fought against Storm on many occassions, but the odds were against him, as the only way a match would be signed for him at Halloween Havoc '00 would be if it was a Handicap match. It was worked out, with Rection facing Duggan & Storm at the PPV. During the match, Storm & Duggan showed considerable troubles, with Duggan accidentally hitting Storm more than once. Major Gunns also interfered, trying to help Rection win. In the end, while Storm was arguing with Gunns, Rection hit his No Laughing Matter moonsault on Duggan and got the victory, finally, after over four years with WCW, getting his first gold, the (renamed) United States Heavyweight Title. At a November Nitro, Rection was honored by his fellow wrestlers, who praised his work ethic and his gaining of the US Title. But Rection's trials with Team Canada weren't over by a long shot.

A few weeks after the PPV, Rection gave a rematch to Storm for the US belt. During the match, Major Gunns surprisingly turned on Rection, helping Storm to take the title back. Gunns then joined the Canadian stable, showing that her Canadian tutoring had paid off. Storm & Rection continued to feud for the next few weeks. Rection also gained another piece of gold (albeit unofficially) when he took an injured Disco Inferno's place in a tag-team title match at the Germany PPV. Rection & Alex Wright defeated Jindrak & O'Haire to become the tag-team champions, although it was played back in the States that it had been Wright & Disco. A few days later, Wright teamed with Elix Skipper and was beaten by the Perfect Event, losing the gold quickly.

Rection's battles with Storm led up to a final PPV match at WCW Mayhem '00. Before the match, Rection was attacked by a supposedly-injured Bam-Bam Bigelow, giving Storm the edge. However, Rection fought back after a time, getting his No Laughing Matter to regain the US Title in a big victory, temporarily ending the Canada/M-I-A feud. This was also the beginning of the end of the M-I-A. Things began to fall apart between Lt. Loco and General Rection, and after a few confrontations, Loco left, taking on his old name of Chavo Guerrero Jr. He also convinced AWOL (who had replaced Major Stash when Stash was released) to leave the M-I-A and go against Rection, causing a mini-feud inside the stable.

Rection also began battling with Shane Douglas, who wanted Rection's US Title. At Starrcade '00, the two wrestlers faced off, with both wrestlers getting in some impressive moves. Rection managed to send Douglas into the post at one point, opening him up. Douglas started to come back, though, dodging the No Laughing Matter, then using dirty tactics, pulling out a chain. Rection managed to dodge, though, knocking it out of Douglas' hands. Chavo then came to the ring, and attempted to give the chain back to Douglas, but the ref saw it, disqualifying him and allowing Rection to continue to hang onto the title. Rection continued to feud with both Chavo and Douglas for the next month, leading into 2001. It was obvious that the M-I-A were falling apart, as only Rection & Cpl. Cajun were active. Rection agreed to give Douglas another title shot at WCW Sin, and they fought it out amid a variety of stips, including a Chain on a Pole, a Ladder, and First Blood rules. After a furious battle, Rection managed to climb the ladder and get the chain first. But since the ref was down, Douglas got his own chain and bloodied Rection to get the win, walking off with the US Title.

Rection soon left the US Title hunt behind, as well as the M-I-A. At a regular show, he demanded Cpl. Cajun's M-I-A shirt, taking it from him, as well as tearing off his own. Later in the night, Hugh Morrus & Lash LaRoux reappeared, with Morrus laughing as always, and declaring war on the Wall and Chavo. Morrus had multiple altercations with the Wall, leading up to Superbrawl: Revenge, where the two powerhouses tried to take each other out. Both men used their strength, but the match was eventually decided by Morrus' athletic ability, as he hit the No Laughing Matter for the clean victory. Also at the event, Lance Storm was beaten, losing the Commissionership to Ernest "The Cat" Miller. The next night on Nitro, Storm was forced to wait in the ring until Miller came down. The Cat told Storm that there was someone who Storm thought he'd never see again waiting for him. Hugh Morrus then appeared on the screen, laughing hysterically.

This renewed Morrus' feud with Storm and Team Canada. It also brought back one of Morrus' oldest partnerships, when he began aiding Konnan of the Filthy Animals, who also had been battling against Team Canada. Morrus & Konnan helped each other out, keeping the numbers battle even. This caused a tag-team match to be signed at WCW Greed, between Morrus & Konnan and Storm & Mike Awesome. The match was mostly controlled by Storm & Awesome, although Morrus & Konnan obviously had the fan support behind them. Near the end, Morrus knocked Awesome down, then climbed up for the No Laughing Matter. However, Awesome regained his senses, came back, and caught Morrus on the turnbuckle, getting his Running Awesome Bomb on the heavyweight for the victory. Morrus & Konnan then faded out of storylines, failing to appear on the Season Finale of the Turner-ran WCW.

On the first Raw of June '01, the first match was scheduled between Christian and the Intercontinental Champion, Kane. During the match, Edge, Christian's tag-team partner, tried to interfere on behalf of Christian, but was chokeslammed in the ring by Kane, who then followed Christian to the outside. While they were busy brawling, the WCW logo hit the Titon Tron, and Hugh Morrus surprisingly jogged out, running to the ring and delivering the No Laughing Matter to the downed Edge before running away from security. Kane then reentered the ring and easily took out the distracted Christian to retain his belt. Morrus became the second wrestler to appear in the WCW Invasion of the WWF, following Lance Storm and being backed by the WCW Owner, Shane McMahon. Morrus then spent some time wrestling in the WWF's minor leagues, building up his skills and abilities inside the WWF rings, before returning to be part of the ECW/WCW Invasion forces, using his bulk and ability to use the turnbuckles to better his faction's chances of winning the war.

At WWF Invasion, Morrus teamed up with Shawn Stasiak & Kanyon to form a WCW team to go against Billy Gunn, Albert & the Big Show of the WWF. The six men went at it with as much ferver as they could muster for a match that hadn't had any build-up (it was signed at Sunday Night Heat). During the brawl, Morrus managed his moonsault, then covered Billy Gunn to get the victory for his team. After the match, though, the Big Show chokeslammed all three WCW wrestlers, taking away a little from the victory. Still, with his first WWF PPV win under his belt, Hugh Morrus has gained some momentum in the WWF. Will it lead to gold, as it did in WCW? Or is Morrus fated to return to the backstage area as a lowcarder once again?
